SANDERS/SAUNDERS, NUNNALLY, LINDSEY/LINDSAY
Henry SANDERS (s/o Henry Simeon SAUNDERS) b. 14 Oct 1824 in possibly
Morgan Co. GA, d. 1874 in Lincoln Par. LA (Choudrant). He married Mary
Ann (Madeline) Nunnally, April 03, 1844 in Walton Co. or Upson Co. GA.
Children of Henry Sanders and Mary Nunnally are:
1) Sarah Ann Sanders, born 1845; died 1910. She married William Wilson.
2) Mary Anne Elizabeth Sanders, born 1846. She married William Colvin.
3) Louisa I. Sanders, born 1848.
4) William Marion Sanders, born 1849; died 1905. He married Elizabeth
C. Bennett.
5) Martha Luvaney Sanders, Matt, born 1852; died 1919. She married
Thomas Pardue.
6) Nancy Ann Arphy Sanders, born 1854. She married George Rogers.
7) Jane Sanders, born 1856. She married Elbert Johnson.
8) David Marion Sanders, born 1857; died 1894. He married Jennie Lula
Embry.
9) John Horatio Sanders, born April 26, 1860 in Cherokee Co. AL
(Centre?); died April 10, 1951 in Caddo Par. LA. (Shreveport). He
married Jalutia Jane Lindsay February 17, 1880. (see below)
10) Henrietta Sanders, born April 26, 1860 in Cherokee Co. AL
(Centre?).
I do not know how many of these children remained in the Jackson Parish area but I believe some of them resided near Eros and others near Choudrant which was located just over the northern border into Lincoln Parish.
Henry's 9th child, John Horation Sanders was my great-grandfather. He lived near an old community called Longstraw. My understanding is that this township of Longstraw went into decline as soon as the railroad was built through Choudrant. All that is left of Longstraw is an old church and nearby cemetery. Our family bible states that John was burried in this cemetery but I have been unable to find confirmation of this.
John Horatio Sanders came to Jackson Parish as a young man. He became Deputy Sheriff AND Mayor of Choudrant. I have been unable to find any details of his political life and feel as though those records have gone by the wayside. John was a tall man with a large white mustache. At some point in his later life he became a livestock dealer and eventually retired to the Shreveport area.
John married Jalutia Jane Lindsay/Lindsey. Her parents are thought to have been Thomas Lindsey and Adaline R. Sweeney but I have been unable to find any documentation for these people in Jackson or Lincoln Parish.
All I know about Thomas was that he had a brother and/or father named James.
