Maurice Edward
Machen, age 83, of Tallulah, Louisiana, passed away on November 23,
2022, at Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro, Louisiana. Maurice was
born on April 19, 1939, in Madison Parish, Louisiana, to Cecil and
Lois Purvis Machen. Maurice was a self employed farmer in East Carroll Parish
(Sondheimer) for over 50 years. He was also a talented musician playing piano
and guitar his entire life.
Maurice was preceded
in death by his parents, one sister, Joan Machen Colbert, one son, Edward
Machen and a step daughter, Jill Whitaker.
Maurice is survived
by his wife, Cynthia Arender Machen of Tallulah, Louisiana, one brother,
Paul Machen (Debra), three sons, Len Machen (Rhonda) of Start,
Louisiana, Bill Machen of Tallulah, Louisiana, and Cameron Machen of
Metairie, Louisiana, one daughter, Ashton Machen of DeRidder,
Louisiana, one step son, Jason Whitaker of Monroe, Louisiana, and one
step daughter, Jenny Hopkins of Monroe, Louisiana, four grandchildren,
Lauren Machen Linder (Richard), Kayla Machen, Steele Thompson and Ella Pankey,
one great grandchild, Claire Jewel Linder. Maurice had two sisters-in-law
(besides Debra), Tammi Arender of West Monroe, Louisiana, and Penney
Wilkins of Tallulah, Louisiana, and one brother-in-law, Dr. Stan Wilkins of
Plain Dealing, Louisiana. Maurice had many nieces and nephews including
Dene Machen, Stewart Machen and Alan Machen, Toby Wilkins and Corby
Wilkins.
Funeral services for
Maurice will be Monday, November 28, 2022, at 11:00 AM at First
Baptist Church, Tallulah. Visitation will be one hour before the service at
10:00 AM. Burial will follow at Silver Cross Cemetery in Tallulah under
the direction of Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home.
Bro. Jay Parker, Bro.
Jason Lupo and Cameron Machen will officiate at the service. Eva Taylor will
provide the special music. Serving as pallbearers are Dene Machen, Stewart
Machen, Alan Machen, Kevin Purvis, Robert Purvis and Quinton Purvis. Honorary
pallbearers will be Sonny Powers, Paul Powers, Keith Powers and Edgar
"EB" Purvis.
The family would like
to thank the staff at Franklin Medical Center, staff at Legacy Nursing and
Rehabilitation, and Legacy Nursing and Rehabilitation for the comfort and care
Maurice received as his health declined.
