Dr. Rollins Bernard
“Bob” Rosenzweig, 92, died peacefully Thursday,
November 16, 2017 in Shreveport, LA. Rollins was born on November 29, 1924 in
Vicksburg, MS. He graduated from Lake Providence HS in 1941 and two years later
enlisted in the US Navy where he served on the USS Bunker Hill (CG-52) as part
of the Air Crew Torpedo Squadron and participated in the first carrier based
attack against the Japanese homeland, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. For his bravery and
courage under fire, he was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross with one gold
star, the Air Medal with four gold stars, as well as, a Presidential Unit
Citation. After his honorable discharge from the US Navy in 1945, Rollins
attended Northeast LA Junior College, Monroe, LA, followed by LSU, Baton Rouge,
Tulane University in New Orleans and graduated from
Loyola University, New Orleans in 1951 with a Doctor of Dental Surgeon degree.
In December of that year he married the love of his life, Beverly Ann Molony and moved to Ft. Sill in Lawton, OK.,
where he served three years in the US Army Dental Corp as a 1st Lieutenant. In
June of 1953 they settled in Shreveport where he practiced dentistry until he
retired in 1990.
Rollins was preceded in death by this parents, Isadore and Flora Hardin Rosenzweig,
his brothers Rudolph and Tommy Rosenzweig, his son,
Robert D. Rosenzweig and his loving wife, Beverly.
Survivors include his son, Michael Rosenzweig and his
wife, Leesa, of Shreveport; Connie Cope, widow of the
late John Cope, of Shreveport; Ann Lester and her husband, Dr. Steve Lester of
Winter Park, FL. Grandchildren include Kellye Grinton and husband, John and Dr. Meredith Rosenzweig; Jonathan Cope and wife, Jessica and their
children, Penelope and Summer of Austin, TX; David Cope and wife, Brianna of
Tacoma, WA; Kevin Cope of Shreveport; Drs. Scott and Sarah Lester of Rochester,
MN.; Claire and Diane Lester of Winter Park, FL; and Caitlin Rosenzweig. He is also survived by his brothers, Fredrick
Hardin and Max Rosenzweig and wife, Edwina.
Visitation will be held from 5:30 until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, November 17, 2017,
at Osborn Funeral Home, 3631 Southern Avenue, Shreveport.
Services will begin at 10 am on Saturday, November 18, 2017, at The Cathedral
of St. John Berchmans, 939 Jordan Street, Shreveport.
Officiating will be Msgr. J. Carson LaCaze. Interment
will follow at Forest Park Cemetery on St. Vincent Avenue.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Cope, Jonathan Cope, Jim Holt and Clint Schoolfield.
Honorary pallbearers will be John Grinton and David
Cope.
