Sue Burch Scurria,
Madison Parish, Louisiana
July 22, 1925 ~ January
10, 2020 (age 94)
From Crothers-Glenwood
Funeral Home January 14, 2020
Sue Burch Scurria passed away on
Friday, January 10, 2020 in Bedford, Texas with her loving family by her side.
She was 94 years old. Sue was born in Magee, Mississippi on July 22, 1925. She
was the sixth child of ten born to Phinias Burl Burch
and Belle Padgett Burch.
Her love for fashion
and arts followed her throughout her life. Her extensive retail experience made
front page headlines in 1948 at the local Ellis Store in Tallulah, Louisiana
where she served as Assistant Manager. Sue won 10th place in a nationwide
contest for best window display sponsored by Chain Store Age, a highly
prestigious monthly magazine. She was later employed at Westinghouse and Biebecs in Vicksburg, Mississippi. She later owned and
operated Suzannes in Vicksburg, catering to ladies and misses.
In 1953, Sue earned
her degree from Draughons Business College in
Jackson, Mississippi. After marrying the love of her life in 1957, Joseph, S.
Scurria, she was blessed with three children and became a doting stay at home
mother happily involved in all of their activities. Sue was the most selfless
person one would ever meet. Her family, faith and friends were her focuses in
life. One would always find Mama Sue in the kitchen cooking for her family.
When her children had friends over, she would make sure they left with a full
stomach (or at least a glass of her famous sweet tea). She later continued in a
career at Southern National Bank and S & B Drug Store.
Sue is preceded in
death by her husband of 60 years. She is survived and will be greatly missed by
her three children whom she loved and adored: Maria Scurria ODowd and husband
Tim of Lake Charles, Louisiana, Gigi Scurria Ball and
husband Ken of Colleyville, Texas, Larry Scurria and wife Jamie of Dallas,
Texas; her eight wonderful grandchildren, Molly, John Patrick, Maggie, and
Thomas ODowd and Zoe, Macey, Zachary, and Truman
Scurria.
Visitation will be
held at Crothers-Glenwood Funeral Home in Tallulah, Louisiana on Monday,
January 13, 2020 at 5:00 P.M. followed by a rosary at 6:00 P.M. The funeral
services will be celebrated at St. Edwards Catholic Church in Tallulah,
Louisiana by Father Ryan Humphries on Tuesday, Januray
