Our sweet Nellie went home to be with the Lord Friday morning at the of age 82. She was an amazing and strong woman. She was funny and sassy, and she loved her some Jesus! She was active in church, and was especially passionate about Vacation Bible School. She was everybody’s Granny! She was always good for some conversation and some prayers, and always welcomed visitors, whether they were friends or strangers. She spent her time at her home on Louisiana Street with her honey, Newtie, where she raised kids, dogs, and vegetables. She loved her family and would do anything she could for us! I am thankful for the memories. Man, we are going to miss her!!!! Please keep my family in your prayers.

Nellie Mae Jobe Simmons was born in Tallulah, Louisiana, to Lillie Mae Miller Jobe and James Benton “Jimmy” Jobe on January 20, 1938. Nellie married Newtie Simmons on January 21, 1956. They made their home in Tallulah, Louisiana where they were blessed with their two daughters, Judy Lynn and Kathy Sue. Until her health declined, Nellie was a very active member of her church and her community. Nellie died on May 8, 2020, at KPC Promise in Vicksburg, Mississippi, following a lengthy illness. Nellie was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend and was a faithful member of Parkview Baptist Church. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Newtie Simmons; daughter, Judy Lynn Simmons Toney and son-in-law, John Toney, of Tallulah, Louisiana; granddaughter, Bristol Toney Reynolds, grandson-in-law Russell Reynolds, and great-grandchildren, Ethan and SaRee Reynolds, all of Pineville, Louisiana; granddaughter, Jessica Toney Sanders and great-granddaughter, Kauri Sanders of Vicksburg, Mississippi; son-in-law, Joe F. Patty of Tallulah, Louisiana; grandson, Joseph Patty, granddaughter-in-law, Nickie McDaniel Patty, and great-grandchildren, Caroline, Kaleb, and Blake Patty, all of Tallulah, Louisiana; brothers, Ray Jobe and Tommy Jobe of Tallulah, Louisiana; sisters, Marie Jobe Castle and Linda Jobe Vines, both of Vicksburg, Mississippi; Dalana Jacobs of Tallulah, Louisiana; and a host of nieces and nephews and honorary grandchildren. She is rejoicing in Heaven with those who preceded her in death: her parents, Jimmy and Lillie Jobe; siblings, James Edward “Sonny” Jobe, Sr., Kathleen Jobe Marshall, Erma Lee Jobe Garner, Jennie Jobe Wilhite, and Robert “Rabbit” Steward Jobe; and her daughter, Kathy Sue Simmons Patty.

Funeral services will be provided by Glenwood Funeral Home on Tuesday, May 12, 2020 at 10:30 A.M.. She will be laid to rest at Silver Cross Cemetery with Bro. Jason Lupo officiating. Pallbearers will be Clifton Jobe, Joe Jobe, Jimmy Jobe, Tim Jobe, Justin Osborn, Russell Reynolds, and Bruce Wallace.

Due to the current restrictions placed on us because of COVID-19, we are unable to gather together to support each other as we traditionally would during this time of personal loss. We hope that when this global crisis is past, we can gather together and hug necks, and share some memories. Until that time, please keep us in your prayers.
