Tucker is an attorney at law of Natchitoches, La., and needs no introduction to the people of this region, for, in addition to being one of the eminent lawyers of the State, he was born here on December 24, 1856, to J. M. B. and Celedonia (Marrs) Tucker, who were born in Tennessee in 1828 and 1838, respectively. The father was also a talented lawyer, and in early manhood came in this section, and at the time of his death, which occurred in Natchitoches, January 20, 1890, he was the oldest member of the Natchitoches bar. Although he possessed brilliant attainments, he was very retiring in his disposition, and his ability only showed itself to its full force when he was studying or discussing some knotty point of law, or when he was pleading his cases. His widow survives him, being a resident of this town. Of a family of eight children born to them, the subject of this sketch is the second, and only seven are now living. Like the majority of the youths of his day he was given the advantages of the common schools, and later determined to follow in his father's footsteps and make the profession of law his calling. He first began his studies in 1877, and in October, 1882, he graduated before the Supreme Court of Louisiana at Shreveport, and immediately began practicing in his native city, forming in 1885 a co partnership with W. G. McDonald, which existed until 1887. Mr. Tucker was then alone one year and in the month of October, 1888, formed his present partnership with Ex Attorney Gen. M. J Cunningham, they constituting one of the strongest and most talented law firms in this part of Louisiana at this time. They have been employed in many important cases, but on all occasions have shown marked ability in their management. Mr. Tucker has always been devoted to his calling and he has shown that his is a man of unswerving integrity, and as he possesses many admirable traits of character, he is well like and popular both at home and abroad. He is a Democrat of the uncompromising strips, and is ready at all times and under all circumstances to defend his views and to champion what he thinks to be right. He has been the promoter of his own success, and as he started in life with limited means his success commands respect form all. Socially he is member of Natchitoches Lodge No. 89 of the K. of P.
