Elie (Eli) Joseph May, 78, retired blacksmith of West Monroe, died in a local hospital Tuesday morning. Funeral services were held at Hixson Brothers Chapel at 2 p.m. today, with the Rev. Paul Durbin and Filer Seal officiating. Interment in the Hasley Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Monroe.

Survivors are his widow, Mrs. Olivia May, two step-sons, David Fluitt and Mathew, both of Monroe; one daughter, Mrs. Roy Steele Sr., West Monroe; and four step daughters, Mrs. E.J. Brown, Mrs. W.E. Jurdon, Mrs. J.M. Willis and Mrs. E.M. Henderson, all of West Monroe; three brothers, Judge May, Cotton Valley; Burkett May, and W.M. May, both of West Monroe; one sister, Mrs. Ottis Alger, Columbia; one grandchild, two great grandchildren, and a number of step-grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Judge Jessie Heard, Charlie Phillips, E.T. Smith, O.E. Leehy, Floyd Goodwin, and Gordon Greer.

Eli was the son of Joseph Harvey MAY & Caroline "Carrie" CHAPPELL. He married Olevia Elizabeth "Lizzie" MCFERRAND FLUITT on 17 May 1903.
