Carroll of Colleton District, S.C., although I have not found a direct link.)
Thomas (d. abt 1844) was most likely married to Esther (also found as Sarah).
She was a widow in 1850 Ouachita Parish Ward 9 census with sons John and William
and daughter Melinda living at home with her. William married Catherine Beeson
and Melinda married Griffin Long. John Carroll (1835-1863), his wife Frances,

Frances was remarried to J.F. Thomas. John and Frances' daughter Emily married
Joel Richard Hendrix in West Monroe in 1876 and apparently died a few years
later. John and Frances' sons James and Albert appear in 1880 Union Parish

Subject: Wilson African American Surname
I came across your
web page in desperation as I was looking for some information that would give me
a clue as to how to find an African American Family that had a son who allegedly
ran away sometime after 1849 perhaps more accurately the late 1850’s or early
‘60s. (He very well could have ran away after Slavery we just don’t know). I
sent a query to the 1996 – 1999, queries site, however I have subsequently ran
upon your name and was hoping that you might be able to give me some insight as
to how to proceed with my research.
Phillip Eugene (Phil) Wilson, was
born c 1849 – 1854, before find that was a later query page. We located “Phil”
in 1870 (census)living in Hudsonville, Mississippi, along with two other men,
Phil subsequently relocated to Tate County Mississippi near the Village of
Senatobia, Mississippi, from 1880 to 1930 census (minus 1890) of course. In 1876
he married a Martha Ruffin and in 1889 he married Mary McGinnis, he had several
children and died c1934 in Tate County Mississippi.

Wilson, African American Surname
I am researching a very difficult situation
as if African American genealogy isn’t difficult already. I’m looking for
relatives and/or verifiable information of a Phillip Eugene (Phil) Wilson.
We
were told long ago that “Phil”, my grandfather ran away from Monroe, Louisiana
along with two brother’s and or friends, we are not sure as years have clouded
our recollections’ however we located “Phil” as a young man living in 1870 in
Hudsonville (Marshall County) Mississippi, subsequently census records for 1880,
1900, 1910, 1920, found him living in Tate County Mississippi near the Village
of Senatobia.
In 1930, he was living with a daughter in Herando (Desoto)
Mississippi, where he apparently dies circa 1934.
We cannot verify anything
about Louisiana’s (Ouachita Parish) or the Village of Monroe existence. We have
placed his birth c1849 – 1854. During the Slavery Period, on all his census he
indicates that his parents were born in Louisiana as was he himself. Any help
would be greatly appreciated and as a gift from God, we are at wits end.
