Hazel Adams Saul, 58, a native and resident of Vacherie, died June 14, 2000. She was the wife of Clifton Saul Sr. and the mother of Audrall Wooden and Nadine, Angela and Clifton Saul Jr. She was the daughter of the late Adams and Thelma Dupard and sister of JoAnn Akpan, Haywood Jefferey and Tannor, Norris and Darrel Dupard. She is also survived by four grandchildren.
Services are today at noon at First Baptist Church, Vacherie, with interment in the church cemetery. Visitation begins at 10 a.m.

VACHERIE - Diane Dumas Simoneaux, 54, a native and resident of Vacherie, died Aug. 19. She was the mother of Ron Dumas. She was the daughter of the late Joshua Sr. and Mary Dumas and sister of Eliven Phillips, Julia and Mabel Bailey and Eugene, Simon, Joshua, Dennis, Joseph and the late Albert Dumas.
She is also survived by two grandchildren. Services are today at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Vacherie, with interment at the church cemetery. Visitation starts at 8 a.m.

On Monday, February 13, 2023, at 11:15 am, a soldier on the battlefield for the Lord transitioned to his Heavenly home. His battle was not easy, but he fought a good fight until the end. Gabriel Williams was born on September 25, 1952, to the union of Cornelius Sr. and Lillian Williams of Vacherie, La. In addition, Gabriel had five sisters: Brenda Hawkins, Shirley (Michael) Preston, Geneva Henry, Lois (Sylvester) Smith and Earlene Williams, and four brothers: Cornelius (Barbara) Williams, Jr., Leroy, Allen and Jason Williams. Gabriel became one flesh with his help mate, his wife, Barbara Batiste Williams, whom he had been married to 49 and a half years before his earthly departure. To this union, three children were born: Jermaine, Courtney and Eboni Williams. Later in life, his next generation began with the birth of his two granddaughters: Shavoni Damitra Walters and Chelsei Gabriele Williams. During his time here, Gabriel accepted Jesus as his personal savior and was baptized under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Lucien R. Garrett, Sr. Gabriel was a very hard-working man. In his early years, he worked as a welder in the construction industry. At the age of 40, he became employed with St. James Parish Government. He retired from the parish in 2014 as a foreman of the Department of Operations. Gabriel was also a member of the Young Soldiers' Benevolent Association and the Masonic brotherhood. Gabriel leaves to cherish his memories his wife, Barbara; three children, Jermaine, Courtney and Eboni; two grandchildren, Shavoni and Chelsei; siblings, Brenda, Shirley, Cornelius, Jr., Geneva and Lois; Godson, Dominic Williams, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Gabriel is preceded in death by his parents: Lillian (Roussell) and Cornelius Williams, Sr.; three brothers: Leroy, Allen and Jason Williams; one sister, Earlene Williams, and other relatives near and dear to the family's hearts. A public walk-through visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 from 4pm-6pm at Treasures of Life Funeral Services, 315 E. Airline Hwy., Gramercy, LA 70090. A celebration of life honoring Gabriel Williams will be held on Thursday, February 23, 2023 at First Baptist Church, 1244 Magnolia Heights Street, Vacherie, LA 70090.

Matthew Williams Sr., a retired laborer with Avondale shipyard, died Feb. 22 of undetermined causes at Thibodaux Regional Hospital. He was 73. Mr. Williams was a lifelong resident of Vacherie. He was a member of First Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy G. Williams; five daughters, Rose Ann Williams, Wendy W. Carrington, Carol Jean W. Joseph, Sue W. Jackson and Alisha W. Keller; two sons, Wayne Williams Sr. and Eric Williams; three brothers, Cornelius, Solomon and Isareal Williams; two sisters, Ora Belle Rybiskie and Eva Stewart; 15 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. A funeral will be held today at 1 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 1244 Magnolia Heights, Vacherie.
