CONVENT - Sue Malinda Dorsey, 75, a native and resident of Convent, died Sept. 9. She was the mother of Horace Dorsey. She is survived by her siblings Leola Picou, Barbara Adams, Odile Ester, Louise Dumas, Florence Ainey, Mickey Melancon, Beverly Allen and Joseph Dumas. She is also survived by three grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great great-grandchild. Viola (Joshua) Jones

On Saturday, November 30th, 2019, our beloved Viola Jones began her journey home to our Heavenly Father. Viola Joshua Jones fondly known as "Vi", was born on November 21st, 1954 to Charlie Hayes and Beatrice Joshua in New Orleans, LA. She was baptized by the Late Reverend Virgil Scott. She worked at the Cabin Restaurant on Burnside in Darrow, LA. Viola also worked for the St. James Parish School Board nutrition program before her health started to decline. Aaron Patrick Joshua Jr.

Aaron Patrick Joshua Jr. entered this world on November 25, 1999. He was the son of Aaron Sr. and Stephanie Joshua of Baton Rouge, LA. He was affectionately called Paw- Paw or Lil Sluggo, The Gentle Giant.  Aaron gave his life to Christ at an early age and was baptized at New Beginning Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Beverly Burnett in Gonzales, LA. He was educated in the public school in St. James Parish. His greatest joy was his little cousins Yuri, Yai, Y’hlanni, Yaireion, Marley, Yamari, and Kyre and his girlfriend Kira Anthony. On Monday November 15, Pawky went home to be with his Lord and Savior. Oh the joy that floods our soul knowing that as he is absent from the body, but he is present with the Lord. He was truly loved by many and will be greatly missed by family and his friends. The bond he had amongst his friends was inseparable. Affectionately called "Mamee," she was the matriarch of the family. Rev. John A. Russ entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at the age of 84. He was the son of the late Rev. Moses Sr. and Lillie Guidery Russ of Convent, LA. The husband of the late Verdia Russ for 22 years. The father of Rev. John Butler, Latonia Butler, Joan Marie Oatis Julien and the stepfather of Linda Richardson, Leonard Russ, Bishop Sandra Russ Thompson, Lorae Burnett, Danathan Burnett, Merdrick Gonzales, Quatoyah Gonzales, and Keith Gonzales. The brother of Rev. James Russ, Ruth Debeau, Min. Samuel Russ, Evangelist Elizabeth McPherson, Bishop Moses Russ Jr., Naomi Russ Diggs and the late Allen Johnson, Lucas and Amos Russ. The grandfather of 28 grandchildren and great grandfather of 14 great grandchildren. He is survived by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and a loving church family. Rev. Russ served as pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church located at 2810 Erato St, New Orleans, LA 70113 for 23 years. Before being installed as a pastor, he was the organist from 1958 to 1998. During those years, he and his cousin Rev. George Guidry formed “The Flying Clouds”. Later Rev. Russ formed the “Russ Special Gospel Singers. In 1987, Rev. Russ began strengthening the church by teaching Sunday School and Bible Class. He was installed as pastor July 19, 1998. Survived by his wife, Catherine Sam Simmons; two daughters, Keyokita Sam and Jerilyn Pearley; two sons, Roy Sam and Rodney Alexander; two sisters, Sherie and Rochelle Coleman; brother, Cornell Coleman; two grandchildren, Aquendas Rodrigue and Bran'daja Sam; and two aunts, Alma Hayes and Gloria Fields. Lawrence Anthony Steptore

Lawrence Anthony "Bee Bee" Steptore, a resident of Convent, Louisiana, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, December 29, 2011 at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana at the age of 70. He leaves to mourn his life companion, Audrey Young Nickolson; two daughters: Barbara (Eddie) and Mary Washington. He raised Steven LeBlanc. Eight grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Sisters: Barbara (Samuel) Green of North Carolina, Carolyn (Don) Williams, Margret (Dallas) Charles and Patricia Cooper and brothers: Roland (Daisey), Joseph, and Wilbert Steptore. He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert Newman Steptore and Carmelite Steptore, brother Andrew Steptore and sister Ramona Mary Steptore-Johnson. A host of nieces, nephews and close friends also survive him. Johnny "Lil Johnny" Washington Jr., 44, a native of Convent and resident of Gonzales, died Nov. 1. He was the husband of Lorraine Washington and father of two. He was also the son of Shirley Mae Washington and the late Johnny Washington Sr., and the brother of Lester Hayes and Ivory Bush. He was survived by a number of grandchildren.
