Ethyl Mae Isom Champagne slept away peacefully on Thursday, August 17, 2023 at the age of 78. Wife of the late Bill Champagne of 45 years. Daughter of the late Murphy Isom, Sr. and the late Ethel C. Isom. Ethyl is survived by her two daughters Lisa (Wilbert) and Wanda (Michael) and her son, Elroy (Angelic); five sisters: Lillie Hollins, Theresa Devare, Juanita (Gaston) Lee, Irma Melancon, and Elaine (Nolis) Sterling; three brothers: Murphy (Sheral) Isom, Jr. Herman Isom, and Wallace (Catheline) Isom; two Godchild: Monica Johnson; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, Ethyl is preceded in death by her husband Bill; siblings: Vernita, Eva, Mary, Edison, Willie, Harold, and Alet; one niece: Ethel Mae McKinney; one nephew: Kentrell Jones and one Godchild Ethel Mae McKinney. Mildred Landry Chiquet, 95, a native of Paincoutville and resident of Welcome, passed away on February 20, 2018. Mildred was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great grandmother, sister-in-law and friend to many. She was a retired school worker for many years in St. James Parish. She was strong willed and very opinionated! She especially enjoyed reading but the most special thing to her was her family. She is survived by two daughters, Patricia Ann Coleman (Othel "Pee Wee"), and Linda Ann Byrd; two sons, Paul Chiquet (Dolores), and Charles "Chuck" Chiquet; two sisters, Linda LeBlanc and Gladys Zeringue; thirteen grandchildren and a host of great and great great grandchildren; one daughter-in-law, Cheryl Chiquet; and one sister-in-law, Clara Landry. She is preceded in death by her parents, Linda and Jean Landry; one son, Freddie Chiquet; one brother, JC Landry; one sister, Mary Louise Lasseigne; one son-in-law, Robert E. Byrd; one daughter-in-law, Elsie Chiquet; and two brother-in-laws, Claude LeBlanc and Alfred Zeringue. The family would also like to give a special thanks to her nurse, Judy Keller, for her love and compassion during this time. DONALDSONVILLE - Willie Ferchaud Sr., 75, a native of St. James and resident of Donaldsonville, died July 3. He was the husband of Yvonne R. Ferchaud and father of Ava Cantrelle, Deborah Stewart and Kathy, Aleta, Willie Jr., Kenneth and Hyram Ferchaud. He was also the son of the late Eugene and Mathilda Ferchaud and brother of Marline
Southerland and Emma, James and the late Maybel, Effie, Gertrude, Celeste, Eugene Jr., John and Kern Ferchaud. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a retired operator with St. James Sugar Co-Op.

A devoted wife and loving mother, Bertha Haydel Graugnard died at home on Sunday, May 31, 2009, at 3:37 p.m. Bertha was 83 and a lifelong resident of St. James. She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, James Jr. and Carolyn Graugnard, of Geismar, Gary and Gerri Graugnard, of Indianapolis, David and Paulette Graugnard, of New Iberia, and Lynn and Carrie Graugnard, of Thibodaux; two daughters and sons-in-law, Mary and Dr. Mike Marcello, of Mathews, and Nancy and Randy Songy, of Lafayette; as well as 16 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Marilyn Rowan, of Metairie, and Jeanette "Louise" Carter, of Ball; and two brothers, Claude Haydel and Walter Haydel, both of New Orleans. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Graugnard; parents, Premilas J. and Claudia Landry Haydel; infant son, Robert Michael Graugnard; two brothers, Beverly and Joseph Haydel; and three sisters, Gertrude Zeringue, Mathilda Bourgeois and Adelaide Signorelli. She was active for many years at St. James Catholic Church, a charter member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers, member of the Ladies Altar Society and enjoyed singing with the choir for many years. Her hobbies included preparing meals for and entertaining family and friends, sewing and working among her flowers. Pallbearers will be James Graugnard III, Will Graugnard, Michael Marcello, Chad Songy, Charles Songy and Dean Standridge. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Ourso Funeral Home in Donaldsonville. ST. JAMES - Antoine Fortune Graugnard Jr., 83, a native and resident of St.James, died Jan. 2. He was the husband of Mary Ann Delaune Graugnard andfather of Anne Bourg, Denise St. Pierre and Susan Melvin.He was also the son of the late Fortune and Denise Schexnayder Graugnard and brother of the late Mabel Deas, Annette Rodrigue, Edmae Schexnayder, Aline Henderson, Richard Schexnayder and Eugene, Marcel and James Graugnard. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was prececed in death by one grandchild. In 1944, with Michael Schexnayder, he organized a cooperative sugar mill in St. James Parish and, the following year, was appointed president and general manager of St. James Sugar Co-Op, a position he held for more than 30 years. A former state representative, he also served as chairman of the Farm Credit Board, president of American Sugar Cane League and American Society of Sugar Cane Technologists, general chairman of International Society of Sugar Cane Technologists, chairman of Louisiana Council of Farmer Co-Operatives, president of Louisiana Sugar Exchange, St. James Sugar Exchange and St. James Farm Bureau and
a director of South Louisiana Production Credit Association. Services were held Jan. 4 at St. James Catholic Church, St. James, with interment in the church cemetery.

Mary Ann Delaune Graugnard passed away peacefully on Thursday, November 29, 2012 at the age of 97. She was born March 2, 1915 to Leo and Stella Delaune. After graduation from Touro School of Nursing, she married F.A. Graugnard, Jr. They lived in St. James, LA and raised three daughters before moving to New Orleans, LA in 1999. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband F.A., her parents, sisters Alma Costanza and Louise Landry, grand daughter Emily Elizabeth Melvin and son-in-law Wayne P. Bourg. She is survived by Anne Bourg, Denise and Jerry St. Pierre, Susan and Perry Melvin and sister Agnes Landry. Grandchildren include Wayne Bourg, Anne-Marie Gallagher, David Bourg, Jay St. Pierre, Nicolle Hoy, Monique McConnell, Stephen St. Pierre, Anne Girault and Amy Melvin and 11 great grandchildren. Anyone who knows Mary Ann can attest to her devotion to God and family. She volunteered many years of service to the American Heart Association. Cameron Jon-Patrick Stewart, age 30 of St. James, La. passed away on Monday, January 21, 2019. Cameron was born on December 23, 1988 in Thibodaux, La. to John and Betty Stewart. Cameron was a United States Army Ranger. His smile was infectious and his laugh could brighten your darkest days. Cameron loved and cherished his dog, Aries. He was a loving son, a great little brother, uncle and brother-in-law. His entire family in Louisiana and Savannah, Georgia will certainly miss him. He leaves to cherish loving memories to his mother Betty Heary Stewart; sister Danna (Wade) Joseph of Shreveport, LA.; nephews Wade Jr. and Devonte Joseph; a very loving and devoted friend, Jill Bisberg; the Army Rangers 175 Battalion and a host of family and friends. He served in the Army with distinction, including four tours to Afghanistan. The discipline and patriotism he learned in the Army never left him, as friends and family will attest. He will always be remembered for his dedication and bravery. Ms. Lillian C. Bourgeois in her book Cabanocey: History, Customs and Folklore of St. James Parish, pgs. 8-9 states that the first persons to develop the area were Jacques Cantrelle and his son-in-law, Nicholas Verret who had plantations in the area prior to 1763. They had slaves working the land, and didn't move there until some time between October 7, 1764 and April 4, 1765. Their families moved after the April 1, 1766 census.
Nicholas Verret was born in 1725 in New Orleans, LA, fought in the Revolutionary War, served as Lt Governor and then Commandant and Judge of the First Acadian Coast from 1770 until his death, which occurred Nov. 15, 1775 in St. James Parish, LA.
A native and resident of St. James, he died at 10:40 p.m. Friday, Feb. 16, 2007, at Prevost Memorial Hospital in Donaldsonville. He was 63. Visiting at St. James Catholic Church, St. James, on Saturday from 9:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Louis Oubre, celebrant. Burial in Buena Vista Cemetery in St. James. A graduate of Booker T. Washington High School 68', U.S. Coast Guard, Member of the Masonic Lodge New Tuscan 5 of the M.W. Prince Hall Grand Lodge, F&A.M. of La.; member of The First House of Prayer Baptist Church. He retired after 32 years of service as a Power Plant Engineer for Lockheed Martin, formerly Martin Marietta. He was preceded in death by his parents Thomas, Jr. and Mary Mayho Williams; paternal grandparents Thomas, Sr. and Rebecca Williams (Luling, La.); maternal grandparents Romalus and Octavia Mayho (Burtonland); sister Sandra Jamal. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted sons Roland, Jr. (Shanell) and Roderick Williams; grandkids Roland III, Roshan and Saige Williams; brother Ronald Williams and a host of other relatives and friends. ST. JAMES - James J. Zeringue, 81, a native and resident of St. James, died March 5. He was the husband of Shirley Waguespack Zeringue and father of Jacquiline Yancey, Sharon Curry and Gerald and Michael Zeringue. He was the son of the late Furcy and Lea Zeringue and brother of Rita Faulkner and Stanley, Alfred, Allen, Robert and the late Nelson Zeringue. He is also survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was a retired sugar cane farmer. Memorial services are today at 11 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church, St. James. Visitation starts at 9:30 a.m.

Joseph Victorin "T-Vic" Zeringue, 79, died on Thursday, July 4, 2013. He was a graduate of St. James High School. T-Vic was a very active supporter and coach of his children's athletic programs. T-Vic also enjoyed watching LSU sports and the Green Bay Packers. He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Ordoyne Zeringue; five sons, Brian, Dennis and companion Mary Beth Dufresne, Anthony, Gregory, and Matthew; and brother, Cecil A. Zeringue. Preceded in death by his parents, Lavinia Faucheux and Wallis Zeringue; son Kenneth; sister, Rose Marie; eight brothers, Wallis Jr., Roger, Raymond, Maurice, Francis, Eugene, Etienne, and Joseph Lee Zeringue. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 at 8:30 a.m. until Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church in St. James. Entombment to follow in church mausoleum. Arrangements by Ourso Funeral Home in Donaldsonville. Pallbearers will be Brian Zeringue, Dennis Zeringue, Anthony Zeringue, Gregory Zeringue, Matthew Zeringue, Wayne Zeringue, and Gene Zeringue.
