Ronald "BéBé," "Papere," "G-Pa" Joseph Scioneaux, born on June 28, 1932, passed away surrounded by his family on January 10, 2021, at the age of 88. He was a lifelong resident of St.James/Vacherie. The birth and death of this very special man is not nearly as relevant as all the days he lived, loved, and gave to the fullest between those two dates. While serving in the military, he married his high school sweetheart, Hazel Lasserre, and they had five daughters. He worked at Kaiser Aluminum until he joined his family's business as a sugarcane farmer. Once he retired from farming, he worked for the St. James Parish Youth Center for ten years. When he permanently retired, he focused on doing good for others. BéBé never met a stranger and he never forgot anyone he met. He put God and family first and he considered so many friends his family! In addition to supporting and cheering for his family at any and all events, he pursued some of his many hobbies including reading, carpentry, family handyman, visiting friends and family, bike riding, picking neighborhood flowers and fruit, and giving out dum-dums to the neighborhood children. Ronald loved sports, and his favorites were LSU, Saints, and especially the Wildcats. He was a graduate and avid supporter of St. James High School and its athletic program. He assumed the role of game announcer for twelve years and was integral in forming the football booster club as well as the band booster club. He served twice as Chief Quarterback of the football booster club. For years, the community enjoyed his newspaper column, "Ramblin with Ronald CNO." He touched so many in the community and was recognized as the 1989 Citizen of the Year by The Enterprise newspaper. Being one of the original members of the Community Advisory Panel (CAP) and the many various recognition plaques on his office wall brought him pride. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years, Hazel Lasserre Scioneaux; his daughters: Jill (Ricky) Prescott, Connie Becnel, Molly (Gordon) Falgoust, Sally (Blaine) Bourgeois, and Patti (Edward "Eddie") Hymel; his grandchildren who all claim to be his favorite: Jason (Adele), Dane, Chase (Jennifer) Prescott, Ron (Amy) Becnel, Lisa (Jason) Rome, Blake, Ben (Whitney) Falgoust, Blair (Trent) Montz, Jake (Maci), Samuel (Rachel Morris) Bourgeois, Katie (Matthew) Labiche, Stephanie and Lee Hymel; his great-grandchildren whom he loved "a bushel and a peck:" Harper Prescott, Cole and Micah Weeks, Alyse and Luke Becnel, Landen Rome, Aubree and Paislee Falgoust, Hudson Montz, Eli and Andrew Labiche, and making their arrival soon, baby Prescott, baby Collins Bourgeois, and baby Leah Labiche; and his brothers: Anyson "Noonie" (Doris) Scioneaux, Jr. and Donovan (Kris) Scioneaux, Sr. He is preceded in death by his father, Anyson Scioneaux, Sr.; his mother, Leah Fabre Scioneaux; his sister, Delores Scioneaux; his brother, Carroll Scioneaux Sr.; his father-in-law, Raoul Lasserre, and his mother-in-law, Doralise Delatte Lasserre. Funeral services will be held at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Vacherie, LA, on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at 10:00 a.m. Until we meet again, we'll drink coffee, tell your stories and sing your songs. Good night, sleep tight, sweet dreams, WE LOVE YOU!

    Armist St. Pierre

FATHER OF 6, HIT BY BUS, IS KILLED ON WAY TO WORK - Paulina Man, Riding Bike, Dragged 100 Feet to His Death
    (Special to the Times-Picayune)
Lutcher, La., Oct 4 - Armist St. Pierre, 37 years old, of Paulina, was killed almost instantly when he was struck by a Teche Grehound bus on the river road in Paulina this morning. The accident occurred in front of the Paulina postoffice at 6:15 o'clock. St. Pierre, employed by the Colonial Sugars Company in Gramercy, was on his way to work at the time. The bus, carrying six passengers and driven by William P. Harris, 25 years old, of 1240 North Broad street in New Orleans was on its way to New Orleans from Union, La. St. Pierre, riding his bicycle, was traveling in the same direction as the bus. Paulina is about two miles from Gramercy. As the bus approached the bicyclist, the driver blew the horn to pass. Almost simultaneously, St. Pierre, without looking turned his bicycle across the road and directly in the path of the oncoming bus. Harris, in an effort to avoid striking the man, applied both the emergency and the foot brakes and swerved the bus across the road. Dragged 100 Feet
Just as he cut the wheel the bus struck St. Pierre, knocking him from his bicycle, and dragged both him and the bicycle a distance of 100 feet from the scene of the impact. When St. Pierre was hit, his body was hurled into the right fender of the bus, then thrown on top of the hood and finally under the bus. Its brakes locked, the bus skidded and was thrown against a tree on the opposite side of the road. St. Pierre, badly mangled, died a few minutes after being pulled from under the bus. A coroner's jury, impaneled by Dr. Gaston L. Gaudet, St. James Parish Coroner, at the scene of the accident, reported that the accident was unavoidable. Several of the bus passengers were shaken up. Father of Six
St. Pierre was born in Grand Point, August 17, 1906. He was the son of Mrs. Florestan St. Pierre and the late Florestan St. Pierre of Grand Point, and the husband of the former Miss Livignia Schexnayder of Grand Point and the father of six children, Florette, 15; Morris, 13; Ferdie, 11; Doris, 10, Dudley, 7, and Jennette, 4; five sisters, mrs. Louis Martin, Paulina; Mrs. Denise St. Pierre, Grand Point; Mrs. Johnny Matherne, Grand Point; Mrs. Frank Roussel, Paulina and Miss Theresa St. Pierre, Grand Point, and two brothers, Athanese, of Grand Point, and Clemente of Lutcher. Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at the St. Joseph's Catholic church in Paulina with interment in St. Joseph's cemetery at Paulina.

She was a lifelong resident of St. James Parish where she was born and raised and in turn raised her own family with her husband, Ronald, deceased since 1988. She was the matriarch of the families of her 2 daughters and 3 sons: Ronette and husband Kevin Duhe and their daughters Taylor, Sloane and Remi; Michael and his children Laura, Lindsey, Luke, Leslie and Lee; Leonard and wife Durie and their children Landon, Jordie and Cardur; Ann and husband Joe Martin and their children Justin, Rylee, Trey and Lillie; and Dean and April and their children Garrett and Kinsley. Beverly was an amazing cook and has inspired her children and grandchildren to appreciate the uniqueness of Cajun ingredients and recipes and practiced and preached farm to table cooking before it was ever a thing! It is no secret that Beverly appreciated good food and loved to eat! Besides daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and chef, Beverly can also proudly include on her list of achievements business manager, world traveler, master gardener, spiritual leader, grief counselor, avid reader and LSU coed (for one semester in the not so distant past!). She was an avid reader and always enjoyed a spirited discussion on politics. She loved music and never passed an opportunity to dance! We are grateful to each of these communities for their love and support! The family would like to thank Dawn Lowe and her colleagues at Hospice of Baton Rouge for their outstanding care and support.
