Lutcher Man Killed When Auto Wrecks
Roland Tassin Dies of Fractured Skull and Broken Neck as He Stops Car Sharply -TWO PASSENGERS ARE NOT INJURED - Victim Was on Way to Vic Mire's Club to Get His Wife and Mother-in-Law.
Sudden death caught Roland Tassin as he drove up last night to the Vic Mre club at Gonzales. The car Mr. Tassin was driving overturned as he approached the club, the force of the overturning vehicle striking the victim's head against the concrete road, killing him instantly. So shocked were two young passengers of the accident car that they could not give a coherent account of what happened. Apparently, from their description of the wreck, and from remarks of persons in the club, no other automobile was involved. It being Saturday night, a large number of cars were parked along the neutral grounds of the highway on both sides of the road. Mr. Tassin drove up at a fast rate of speed and slamped on his breaks sharply. Too sharply. So sharply, in fact that the vehicle overturned. In addition to the deep gash in his head, he suffered a fractured skull and a broken neck, while he bld profusely.
Traffic Conjection
Passing traffic and the rush of the curious from the club caused a congestion for a time, but this was cleared up upon the arrival of Sheriff Lester Gonzales, of Gonzales. A sheet was placed over the body until the arrival of Dr. D. C. Brumfield, Ascension parish coroner who examined the body and pronounced death caused by a broken neck and a fractured skull, the result of the automobile overturning. He said there would be no inquest. Meanwhile a Baton Rouge ambulance had arrived at the scene and took charge of the body, taking it to Baton Rouge to prepare it for burial. Mr. Tassin, who was 26 years old, was the son-in-law of Mr. Mire, and was at the time coming from his home in Lutcher to get his wife and his mother-in-law, who were at the mire place. The victim was employed by the Colonial Sugars Co., Inc., of Gramercy, as chemist. In the car with Mr. Tassin at the time were two young men, a Mr. Schexnayder and a Mr. Champan, both of St. James Parish. Their first names could not be learned here last night. The automobile owned by Mr. Tassin, was not as badly damaged as might be imagined from the extent of the victim's injuries. Mr. Tassin was born in Lutcher, where he lived all his life. His body was brought here, arriving shortly before midnight. It is resting at the Woodruff funeral home and will be taken to his home in Lutcher this morning, from where the funeral will be held Monday morning, with services at the St. Theresa Catholic church at Paulina, La., of which he was a member. The hour will be announced later. Interment will be made in the church cemetery.
Mr. Tassin is survived by his wife, the former Mildred Mire; one sister, Rita Tassin of Lutcher; and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. M. Tassin of Lutcher.

"They that wait upon the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar as with eagles' wings. They will run and not grow weary; walk and not grow faint" - Isaiah 40:31 Debra Zeller was born into new life Thursday, August 2, 2012. She was 53 years young. She was a native of Gramercy and a resident of Denham Springs. Debra was a child of the Most High God. Although she was ill with a life-threatening disease, she had a zest for life that was almost contagious. She possesses many gifts which the Lord had bestowed on her. She used them so well and made everyone smile every where she went. It is a great sorrow, but above all else, a great testament to the grace and beauty of God that her family offers her into the loving arms of her eternal Father. The family would like to thank all her caregivers for the loving care they have shown her. Also, all the people who have prayed for her throughout the many years of this truly painful disease and all who were the recipients of her beautiful smile. For her life will go on, only at a different location. She is meeting with the Lord face to face now, instead of in her prayers. He is telling her "Well done my good and faithful servant. Come and inherit the kingdom my Father has prepared for you".
