August 24, 1949 - September 20, 2021
Death is just a step into a better life and on Monday, September 20, 2021, in Covington, LA, God dispatched His angels to transport His daughter home. She was a native of Lutcher, LA and lifelong resident of Houston, TX. LoAnn was the oldest daughter of the late Walsh and Dorthy Batiste of Gramercy, LA. She was reared in a Christian home by her parents, and they encouraged the love of God as well as advocated the importance of education into her life. Age 72 years.
Delores's legacy of education began in the St. James Parish public school system. She entered first grade at Gramercy Elementary and later transferred to Cypress Grove Elementary when the family moved from Gramercy to Lutcher. After high school she went on to graduate from Straight Business School in New Orleans, LA, received an Associate of Arts degree in Accounting from Delgado Community College. She later continued her education by enrolling in Laredo Community College to study American Government as well as Accounting and Finance. LoAnn also received an Associate of Arts degree in Real Estate Development fom Houston Community College. Her employment included Secretary at Charity Hospital and Secretary at GoodHope Refinery where she was given the opportunity to help set up the World's Fair in 1984. She was also employed as a Technical Instructor at CBM (Computer Business Management) from 1982-1988 in Laredo, TX and later as an instructor at MTI (Microcomputer Technology Institute) from 1989-1995, after relocating to Houston, TX.
While in Houston, she found employment she considered more meaningful as an Administrative Supervisor at Texas Children Hospital (1991-2002) and then transferred over to MD Anderson serving as Administrative Supervisor until retirement in 2009. During that same time, she became a Notary and joined the National Association of Notaries and Certified Professional Secretaries. She met Lionel Riley of New Orleans, LA while in high school. They later married and had one child, Lionel Riley, Jr. She and Lionel divorced, and she transferred to Laredo, TX continuing her employment at Goodhope Refinery. She met and married Clayton Belle and moved to Houston when his job transferred him. She thoroughly enjoyed the flexibility of her employment because she was able to travel many places and learn about many different cultures. On August 13, 2000, she married George Chandler and became a cowgirl! She learned to ride horses (suffering a few falls) but never gave up even after breaking her coccyx bone. She loved the trail rides and especially the people she met along the way. She really enjoyed meeting new people. She joined a group of people at the gym that became very close. They traveled, laughed, played cards, ate at each other's houses, and made a day of eating at Picadilly's every Saturday, no matter what. They checked on each other-all the time. They always knew what was going on with each other. But most important to all of them was attending Smooth Jazz concerts. If they did not attend the concert together, I guarantee you, at least one person from their group attended each concert given during their time as friends. She would call her sister, Annette whom she affectionately referred to as "Ms. Houston", and her cousin, Wanda Francois, to visit and join the group in Houston. She loved family and was so pleased when they visited. She never took NO for an answer.
If an event was coming up, she would call and say something like 'Will Downing will be in the Woodlands. I've got the tickets. When y'all coming?' For Carnival, she would call and say my flight will get in at 10:00am on Friday before Fat Tuesday. Who's going to pick me up? She was picked up from the airport and spent the day in New Orleans. She never stayed away long. Whenever the younger kids saw her, the first thing they asked is "Are you going to take us to McDonalds' in the morning?" Because she always did. She always made a point to try and visit everybody. Each stop she managed to get her something to eat and something to put in her containers to take back to Houston. She always said, the food will make it back to Houston, I have ice!!!
Delores was a sweet woman with a kind word for everybody that endeared her to many. She never complained much about anything but had an opinion about almost everything. She especially enjoyed her line dancing activities with the group, swimming, visiting various churches, feeding the hungry and meeting her friends at Tom Bass Park. LoAnn will best be remembered as a woman with a warm heart whose life's mission was to spread love & kindness to anyone she met. She was a praying woman, faithful to her God, her husband, her child, her much loved granddaughter, the community, and most importantly to her family.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, at Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, 616 E Main St., Gramercy, LA 70052. Visitation period will be from 9am-11am. On January 13, 1978, Edward Kendall Johnson arrived in this world with much anticipation from his parents Kathleen Williams Johnson and Edward "Gene" Johnson and his sister DeAnn Lachelle. Kendall, whose chosen Godparents were Joyce Hayes and Lionel Bailey, Sr., was a very mischievous child who was always getting into something. Kendall and DeAnn were often partners in crime in teaming up against their parents engaging in mischief. Their strong brother/sister bond was undeniable. Kendall was raised in a Christian home in Lutcher, LA, as his parents were never ashamed of their love for the Lord. He was baptized at First Community Antioch Baptist Church by his uncle Rev. Ferdinand Gaines on Easter Sunday April 8, 1985. Kendall remained a member of First Community Antioch until his death on May 31, 2022. Kendall matriculated in the public schools of St. James parish. He graduated from Lutcher High School in May 1996. After graduation, Kendall attended River Parishes Vocational and Technical College and became a welder. Kendall held a soft spot for children and family hence the family nickname "Dooley - the gentle giant." He helped take care of his grandmothers anytime their caregivers needed assistance with them. He would also babysit his younger cousins. He was quiet, but always had a slick comment ready. Kendall also known as "Big Ed" to his friends was quite the jokester. One of his favorite pastimes was trolling all the "Who Dats" on Facebook after a Saints loss especially if it was to his beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He loved sports and bragging on his little cousins' sports achievements.
Kendall will be missed by many, but especially his father, Gene (Shirley Warner); companion, Latricia Bujol (and her children Jordan Brown, Jayce Bujol); aunts, Carolyn Gaines, Linda Bailey, Glorydine Harris, Betty Jones, Glenda Diggs, Yvonne Joseph, Katherine Williams, Gwendolyn, Jewel and Alma Johnson, and Ruth Brooks; uncles, Percy Williams, Arthur Brooks, James, Charles and Larry Johnson, Lionel Bailey and Wilbert Diggs; three Godchildren, Jadyn Amere Harris, Dylan Webster and Trajan Davis, and numerous cousins, relatives and friends. January 09, 1991 - July 21, 2015
ZIMMER, MYA MARIE, a native of Lutcher and a resident of Paulina, peacefully entered into eternal rest at the age of 24, on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at 6:50 p.m., surrounded by her loving family and many devoted friends. Mya was welcomed into this world by her parents, Dale "Zip" Zimmer, Sally LeBlanc Zimmer, and her brother, Robert Lloyd Zimmer, on January 9, 1991. From the time Mya was 3 months old, when she was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis, until her beautiful departure, she lived her life to the fullest, never allowing her illness to prevent her from pursing her dreams and achieving her goals. Mya has always been a trooper and a warrior. There was never any task too big or too difficult that she did not attempt, and usually almost always achieved successfully. Mya touched so many people in the community, in the state, and throughout the dance world. She was a devoted friend to many. She was the proud representative of the Bonfire Festival and the Festival of Charities, both for which she served as their reigning Queen for a year. Mya had a zest for life and lived each day to its fullest. She began a long career of dancing at the age of 2. She was a member of the competition dance company at Jamie's Dance Dimensions and Yvonne's Direction in Dance for a total of 14 years, winning many group and individual awards. She was also a member of the Honey Bees, the dance team for the former professional basketball team, the New Orleans Hornets. Her passion for dance reached out to others as she qualified as an instructor for the professional dance organization, "American All Stars", and an instructor for Jamie's Dance Dimensions. She choreographed, taught, and perfected routines for the Lutcher High School dance team, the Periquettes, leading them to winning State and National awards. Academically, Mya received numerous scholarships and awards upon graduation from Lutcher High School. She was most proud of her four-year scholarship to Tulane University in New Orleans. Although Mya tried for many semesters to work toward and receive her degree in Psychology, her illness had other plans for her. Her will was there, but her body was too weak. That may be her only regret in life and a goal she set that she didn't achieve. Mya was active in the St. Joseph Parish Church community, serving as lector at Sacred Heart Church in Gramercy, as well as an active member of the youth group when she was in high school. Mya loved her religion and relied on prayer, especially during the last few years as she was fighting for her life. She believed in her God, and asked her mom and some of her visitors in the last few months, to stop and pray with her. She is a brave soul and beautiful angel that Heaven has gained. Mya is definitely dancing with her dad. Although Mya had many "special" people in her life, her aunt, "Nannie Mary", was like a second mom and caretaker to her, especially after Mya lost her dad, leaving Sally alone to raise her two children, both with this terminal disease which consumed an enormous amount of time and dedication from Sally and Mary, and many others. Survived by Mother: Sally LeBlanc Zimmer; Brother: Robert Lloyd Zimmer; Godchild: Zander Gaudet; Godparents: John E. Gaudet, Jr. and Paula Gaudet Bischoff; Devoted Friend: Donavon Gilmore; Numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
Preceded in death by Father: Dale Zimmer; Paternal Grandparents: Edward and Gertrude Guidry Zimmer; Maternal Grandparents: Lloyd and Marie Waguespack LeBlanc.
