Aloysius Adam Bourgeois

A great blow was dealt to citizens of the river section this week with the sudden death of Aloysius Adam Bourgeois, beloved Lutcher merchant and one of the outstanding residents of St James Parish. Through his honesty and fair play and through his uncanny executive ability, Mr Bourgeois earned the respect and love of every person who had the pleasure of meeting him and his friends were to be counted in the thousands. In business more than 40 years as a partner with his brother Anicet. "Big Bush", as Mr Bourgeois was affectionately called, was a friend of the rich and the poor alike. He was charitable, courteous and a devout Catholic and his passing is being mourned by hundreds of friends and relatives. Mr Bourgeois' progressiveness and his efforts for community betterment is reflected in the store he operated in Lutcher which grew from year to year and was always one of the neatest and most attractive buildings in the town. He did much to elevate the condition of the community and his civic pride was above reproach. His death is a great loss to this community. She was a volunteer with the Ladies' Altar Society, the Thrift Shop, as well as working every year at the St. Joan of Arc Spring Fair. She was also an avid volunteer at her daughter's elementary and high schools, and was active in her community as a member of American Business Women's Association and St. John Ministry of Care. She could be counted on to volunteer for any community/charitable fund-raiser, and if she told you she would be there, you knew she would be. Rose Ann loved LSU football, fishing, gardening, traveling, and her grandchildren. She spent many Saturdays tailgating and cheering for her Tigers, and spent a memorable LSU/FSU game in a wheelchair in 1982, where the Tigers earned an Orange Bowl bid. Many hours were spent in her flower beds tending to her numerous plants. Even though she couldn't swim, she loved being on the water, and if the fish were biting she wouldn't want to leave that spot. She spent many weekends traveling to Houston to watch Rachel and Evan while Becky and Philip would take mini vacations. Of her many travels, her most recent adventure was in 2013 for her 75th birthday, when she, Becky, and Rachel took a cruise to Italy and Greece. The family would like to thank Seasons Hospice Care of Houston, Texas, as well as the staff of the Memory Care Unit of the Village of Meyerland in Houston, Texas.
