Raphael Michael and Gabriella Michaela Deroche, twins, were born on March 4, 2011 and passed away on March 4, 2011. Our children, ultimately, are not our own; they are God's. He only shares them with us for a time. As Christian parents, it is our privilege and responsibility to do our best to lead them back to God. God has blessed us with these beautiful babies, if only for a short while. We will miss their bodily presence, but we have peace knowing their souls are in the company of the Saints and Angels singing the praises of the One Holy Triune God and seeing Him unveiled in all His glory. [Survived by:] Oren and Jennifer Belak Deroche, Parents; Beau, Sean, and Sarah Deroche, Siblings;
Donald and Kathleen Breaud Deroche, Paternal Grandparents; Karlo and Karen Thompson Belak, Maternal Grandparents.

Leah Philomena Deroche was born on February 20, 2017 and passed away on March 2, 2017. She is survived by her parents, Oren and Jennifer Belak Deroche; her siblings, Beau, Sean, Sarah, and Rebecca Deroche; her Paternal Grandparents, Donald and Kathleen Breaud Deroche; her Maternal Grandparents, Karlo and Karen Thompson Belak. She was preceded in death by her siblings: (twins) Raphael Michael & Gabriella Michaela, and Victoria Teresa Deroche. Leah was blessed to have received the Sacraments of Baptism and Confirmation. She has gone before the Throne of the Most High God without ever having stained or blemished her baptismal garment. As Easter people, we know that she will be raised again with a glorified body reunited to her perfect soul to live eternally in the City of God. Although we grieve at our loss of not having her in our life, there is nothing we want more for her than the Beatific Vision, so we also rejoice in her being able to see, love, and know God as completely as she can . In God's presence for eternity, never having sinned on earth, she will never know sin or its consequences and she will forever know love and joy.
As parents it is our ultimate goal to help our children to get to heaven. Now she is our little saint, able to intercede on our behalf to the Holy Trinity.

Victoria Teresa Deroche was born on Oct. 15, 2013, and passed away on Oct. 15, 2013. She is survived by her parents, Oren and Jennifer Belak Deroche; her siblings: Beau, Sean and Sarah Deroche; her paternal grandparents, Donald and Kathleen Breaud Deroche; and her maternal grandparents, Karlo and Karen Thompson Belak. She was preceded in death by her siblings, Raphael and Gabriella. "Although we are grieved at the passing of our daughter, Victoria, from this life we find comfort and joy from the teachings of Jesus Christ and His One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. Due to Victoria's baptism, sinless life and passing before the age of reason, we are confident that her soul is in the presence of the angels and the saints giving glory and praise to the One Almighty God. Victoria's unblemished soul reminds us of the scriptures when Jesus says that the pure of heart will behold the face of God and that to enter Heaven we must be unto like little children. May we all strive in our lives to be pure of heart and like little children in their thankfulness, joy, forgiveness, innocence and love. We will dearly miss our little Victoria, who has victory over death and will rise again on the last day. Her short life and passing also remind us of our ultimate dependency on God and that it is in doing His Holy Will that we find peace." The wake will be on Sunday, Oct. 20, 2013, from 3 p.m. until 4 p.m. at Rose Lynn Funeral Home. Visitation will be on Monday, Oct. 21, 2013, from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. at

Fatally Scalded
Last Wednesday a steam pipe exploded in the sugar house of the Uncle Sam Plantation, in St. James Parish and fatally scalded a colored man named Auguste Dugas. The injured man had been employed in the engine room of the sugar house, and in compliance with orders drew the fires from under the boilers. He then opened the valve to blow off steam through the mad drum to clean it out when the discharge pipe burst and he was frightfully scalded. The boilers ran dry in a short time, and had the fires been still under them a terrific explosion would doubtless have occurred.
On Thursday last Dugas died in great agony from the effects of his injuries. No other damage resulted from the accident.

-- on the 9th of December, 1843, in the state of Louisiana, at St. Michael, Madame Elisabeth Gallitzin. -- This Lady was born in Russia, in the year 1795 and belonged to the princely family Gallitzin, and was a close relative of the Catholic missionary Prince Gallitzin. In the 26th year of her age, she left the schismatic Greek church and became Catholic.

Biography
Sister Yelizaveta Alexeyevna Golitsyna (aka Elizabeth Gallitzin) was a Russian noble and Roman Catholic nun, who converted to Roman Catholicism from Russian Orthodoxy. Yelizaveta Golitsyna was born 22 February 1797 in Saint Petersburg, Russia to the family of Prince Alexei Andreevich Golitsyn and Princess Alexandra Golitsyna. She was baptized and brought up in the Russian Orthodox Church. When she was 15, she learned that her mother and aunt converted to Catholicism. Outraged by this "betrayal," she vowed never to change her religion, but over the next four years, her rejection of Catholicism was replaced by interest and desire to know more. Eventually, Yelizaveta also joined the Catholic Church. During one of her trips abroad, Golitsyna met Jesuit Father Rozaven, whom she asked to find for her a religious order devoted to education. Father Rozaven suggested the recently founded community, the "Society of the Sacred Heart of Jesus", created by Madeleine Sophie Barat in order to spread education among Catholic women. Golitsyna took the veil in the city of Metz in 1826, and made her first vows in Rome in 1828. Her final vows were taken in Paris in 1832. Mother Barat highly valued the assistance of Golitsyna. After the General Council in 1839, Golitsyna was appointed Assistant General and sent to visit the American houses. She arrived in New York and promised Bishop Hughes that the Society of the Sacred Heart would open a house in New York. In May 1841, the first Religious arrived. A school was opened at the corner of Houston and Mulberry streets, in Manhattan, then in Astoria, and finally at Manhattanville. During her stay in New York, Mother Gallitzin was a guest of the Parmentier family, noted New York philanthropists, at their Bridge Street mansion in Brooklyn. In 1842 Mme. Gallitzin founded establishments in the Pottawattamie missions, and at McSherrystown, Maryland.
Mother Elizabeth died of yellow fever, at the age of 47, on 26 November 1844 in New Orleans, Louisiana.

Note the discrepancy in birth year between the obit and Wiki. The death year in the Wiki bio is in error, as her obit was posted in January of 1844. If the month and day of 26 Nov is correct, then the date of 9 Dec 1843
mentioned in the obit would be her burial, assumed at St Michael.

MOTHER GARDERE MOURNED
The remains of Mother Emily Gardere, who died at the Rosary Convent, on St. Charles Avenue, on Wednesday, were conveyed early yesterday morning to Convent, La., where the body of the deceased nun was interred in the cemetery of the order, in St. Michael's Parish. Mother Gardere was born in Louisiana, and entered the order of the Sacred Heart about twenty years ago. She was a gifted musician, and taught this branch in several convents of the order. Previous to the removal of the remains a low mass was celebrated in the Convent chapel by Rev. Father Roby, S.J. This was said at 5 o'clock yesterday morning, after which the body was taken to Convent. The funeral services were simple and unostentatious and in keeping with the hidden religious life of the sainted nun.
The office of the dead was recited on Wednesday night in the chapel, where the casket containing all that was mortal of the good nun was placed.

Juliette McLane was born in Wilmington, Delaware in 1826, the daughter of Louis McLane (1786-1857) and Catherine Mary Milligan. Louis McLane, whose handsome features can be found on old Treasury Notes, was successfully member of Congress, United States Senator, twice Minister to England, on the last occasion of which he had as his Secretary of Legation no less a personage than Washington Irvington; Secretary of the United States Treasury, 1831-1833; Secretary of State, 1833-1834, and president of the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Juliette is the granddaughter of Colonel Allen McLane, the valiant patriot of the Revolutionary War, immortalized in the oil painting by James Peale entitled: Rencontre between Colonel Allen McLane and Two British Horsemen. The prospect of marriage with a Catholic gentleman of St Louis, Peter Bauduy Garesché, brought Juliette into contact with her future sisters-in-law who enlightened her concerning Roman Catholicism. Juliette's parents were very much against the idea of their daughter becoming a Catholic and enlisted the aid of their local minister. As a consequence, one Sunday the minister preached a virulent anti-Catholic sermon, to which Juliette responded by standing, picking up her accoutrements and leaving the church. After this incident, Juliette's parents did not stand in her way! Juliette was received into the Catholic Church in New York in 1846 by Archbishop John Joseph Hughes. Shortly afterward, Louis McLane was appointed United States Minister to England. While living in London, Juliette came to know and revere the Religious of the Sacred Heart and the work that the Society of the Sacred Heart was doing in England at that time. Juliette married Mr Garesché 25 SEP 1849 and the couple returned to Bauduy's home in St Louis, MO. The couple had four children, Katherine Milligan (known as "Kitty"), Lydia Johnston Stanislaus (known as "Lily"), John Peter and Virginia Margaret. During the Civil War, Missouri was a boarder state with as many Northern as Southern sympathizers. The state therefore was vulnerable to attack from either side. Bauduy, having refused to take the oath of allegiance to the Union was forced to leave St Louis. As Inspector of the Powder Magazine at Columbia, SC, Bauduy served the Confederacy but law forbade any contact with the North. This meant that Bauduy's family seldom heard from him. When skirmishes ensued in and around St Louis, Bauduy's four children were sent to New York to live with Juliette McLane's sister. In 1863 Juliette obtained a pass to visit her husband and then journey to New York. She picked up the four children and made the dangerous journey back to South Carolina. Once in Columbia, Juliette devoted her days to nursing Confederate soldiers. After the Civil War ended, the Garesché family moved back to St Louis. Bauduy died suddenly in 1868, and in rapid succession Juliette lost both John Peter and Virginia. After these deaths, Juliette decided to enter a convent. Juliette entered the Society of the Sacred Heart in Grand Coteau, LA, 5 MAY 1876. Previously two of her daughters, Katherine known as "Kitty" and Lily, entered the Society of the Sacred Heart. Juliette pronounced her vows in St Louis in 1878, with Bishop Ryan, a close family friend officiating and in the presence of her religious daughters. Juliette made her solemn profession at the Society's motherhouse in Paris in 1881, taking for her name in religion "Mother Bauduy McLane Garesché, RSCJ." Mother Garesché served the Society of the Sacred Heart in the United States and New Zealand, where she was sent with three other religious to start a school and convent in Timaru. Mother Bauduy Garesché returned to St Louis and was appointed superior at the Academy of the Sacred Heart at 334 North Taylor known as "City House". When her health began to fail, Mother Garesché was sent to Louisiana in hopes that a warmer climate might be beneficial.
She died at St Michael's, LA, in July of 1885. Requiescat in pace! Cor unum et anima una in Corde Jesu.

MRS. L. A. GAUDIN - A Wife's Devotion Ends in Her Sad Death
Stella Waguespack, the beautiful and accomplished young wife of Dr. Louis A. Gaudin, of Convent, St. James parish, whose death was chronicled during the week, gave up her life in the exercise of that wifely devotion which makes martyrs of many women, but which appeals to the heart and excites the sympathy and admiration of all who hear of of it. Dr. Gaudin is one of the most prominent physicians in that section of the state, and his home in Convent, presided over by so graceful and accomplished a mistress, was a center of refinement and culture and happiness. Her sway was unquestioned, and her influence went far beyond the confines of the little town. In the course of his practice, Dr. Gaudin attended two cases of diphtheria. He contracted the disease on Jan. 28 and his faithful young wife determined to nurse him through the illness. He did all in his power to disuade her, but she listened to no argument but the promptings of her heart, and day and night watched beside the couch and saw the crisis pass. On Feb. 1 she was herself stricken before the doctor was out of danger, and it was apparent that the anxiety over her husband's condition had so weakened her that she was in no condition to withstand the ravages of the disease. She rapidly grew worse, and three of the doctor's colleagues were called in, but medical skill was powerless. on Sunday last she was informed that the end was near, and received the news with true Christian resignation. She gave instructions as to the dispose of her effects, and the details of the funeral, and shortly after receiving the last rites of the Catholic church she fell into the deep sleep which knows no waking, except into the reward of a life well spent in the service of the Maker, and duty well performed. She was buried in St. Michael's cemetery, at Convent, Father LeGrand, of the Marist Fathers, officiating, and the entire population of the town turning out to pay their tribute of love and veneration to her memory. Mrs. Gaudin was born in the parish of St. James on Sept 15, 1874, her parents being Mr. and Mrs. Felicien Waguespack. She was educated in the Markey-Pleard Institute, in New Orleans, and graduated in 1892. She was married to Dr. Gaudin on Jan. 15, 1896. She was well known in the best social circles of New Orleans,
and her death will be sincerely deplored by those who were graced with her acquaintance. Mr. W. J. Waguespack, of this city, is her brother.

Mrs. Gourdain died some time ago and Mrs. Dumoulla joined her in the spirit world not long after. He retired from active business in 18-4, but kept up his membership in the auctioneer's exchange.
