J. A. Braud

Parish St. James, New Orleans, La., Nov. 23, 1858 ae. 48. Mr. B. was a native of Southern Louisiana, and from early age was engaged in commercial pursuits, for a number of years past as the senior partner in the highly respectable domestic commission house of J.A. Braud & Landry. Mr. B. had filled several important public trusts with ability, intelligence, and great integrity; had been an alderman of the city, and also a senator of the state, and was, at the time of his decease, an administrator of the Charity Hospital, and a director of the Citizens' Bank, enjoying in the latter institution a position only second in public estimation to that of its able and accomplished president. J.A. Braud was a noble specimen of the native sons of Louisiana, honorable in all his dealings, truthful, sincere, and always disposed to touch lightly and kindly upon the weaknesses of others. His loss is a public calamity; and to those endeared to him by friendship or the ties of blood it is an irreparable bereavement.

Mary Wynona (Prosser) Thompson

August 31, 1934 - December 3, 2025
In the peaceful quiet of her room, Mary Wynona Thompson passed from this life and entered into her eternal reward on Wednesday December 3, 2025. She was born August 31, 1934 in Valier, IL. During her adult life she lived in Bolingbrook, IL, Kankakee, IL, then moved to Gretna, LA, and finally to Hester, LA. By many she was known as Wynona or Nona but her husband affectionately called her Red. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Thompson, son Robert L. Thompson II, her parents, Mabel and Thomas Prosser, and her siblings, Ida Mae Zogas, Thomas Prosser, Doris Patti, Dean Prosser. She is survived by 4 children and a nephew whom she considered another son: Karen Belak (Karlo), Robin Thompson, Jeanette Crosby (Kevin), Richard Thompson, and Charles "Charlie" Pasters (Mary). She is also survived by 20 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. Mary Thompson loved America and was a modern woman engaged in politics and the workforce. She worked with the young democrats forming committees, developed a map to show who was registered and with what party, and was a poll judge. She helped to incorporate two subdivisions into a small town which was named the Village of Bolingbrook where she was the first village clerk writing the ordinances, taking notes at meetings, and taking care of other office necessities, serving two terms from 1963-1971. When she and her husband moved to Louisiana, she worked at the Gretna Sheriff's Office followed by Aluminum Boats in Avondale and then retired in 2005. In her personal life she was a woman with many loves. Throughout her life she grew strawberries, vegetables, and a variety of flowers. She enjoyed being in the outdoors, camping, and walking trails. She had a way with words not only in the letters she would write or notes in birthday cards but also as an author of several story books that she gifted to a couple of grandchildren. One of the greatest works of her life was the book of genealogy she created by working diligently tracking down information from many resources. Not only did she uncover names, places, and dates (going back to the 1600s), but she wove together a family story including photographs that she collected. Mary belonged to the Methodist faith. She often voiced her love for God and up to her last days believed that God had a plan and it was up to us to follow His plan. Our hope is in Him who will dry every tear and gives joy to the heart. We hope and believe in His mercy which coincides with His just judgements. We ask for prayers for Mary as she goes before God and for her family as they grieve the passing of their loved one. A celebration of life memorial will be held Monday, December 15, 2025 from 5:00pm until 7:00pm at the American Legion Hall (1398 Third St., Lutcher, Louisiana). In lieu of flowers a donation to St. Jude would be most appreciated.
