JENKINS / SAM
My Grandfather was Marshall JENKINS. I believe he was born in or near Franklin, LA in 1867. His mother was Marie SAM. His father was Marshall John JENKINS. My great grandfather was born in England. I don't know the month of my grandfather's birth, nore do I have any detailed information about my great grandfather, except that he was white. Family stories say that he may have fought in the Civil War. My great grandmother was a free person of color. I would appreciate any information you might have about any of my ancestors. Thank You.

deTAVANNE / deMORAINVILLE / CHARPENTIER
I have a bit of information regarding two ancestors of my which emigrated to LA by way of the Caribbean to the Bayou Teche region and settled there in 1795 when the government allowed French refugees to claim land in LA. Count Joseph Michel de Tavanne married Countess Alix de Morainville and changed their name to Charpentier. I am descended from their son, Charles. I want to know more about where the Count came from and where his family lands in France are. Also where their lands were along the Bayou Teche. Are there records regarding those land grants?

NINI
I am looking for my father's family. His name was Earl Nini. He was born in 1916 in Abbeville, Vermillion Parish, LA. However, his father, Louis Felix Nini, was born in Morgan City in 1890. I'd like to find out if he has any family still there. From my searches on the web, I have found there are still Nini's in Morgan City so I assume they are relatives. Is there a way of contacting them or finding out which ones are related to Louis? Can you help?? Although my father died around 1958, I never knew him and would like to see if there are any living relatives. Thank you so much!!!

LACY / RICHARDS
Seeking any information about George Royster LACY, born Oct. 1861 at St. Mary Parish, LA. He was the son of Jesse E. LACY, Jr., and his wife, Anna, also of that parish. According to the 1870 census of St. Mary Parish, the family lived adjacent to the family of Jesse E. Lacy, Sr., and his wife, Virginia, at Centerville. Jesse Sr. is listed as "Farmer" and had large acreage; Jesse Jr. is listed as "Farm Mgr."
Around 1880, according to my information, George LACY and his brother, Jesse III, and cousin, Charles LACY, moved to Arkansas City, Desha County, Arkansas. They must have had capital (inherited?) because all three invested there in land and various commercial enterprises. They seem to have been astute businessmen and to have succeeded in whatever they undertook.
My interest stems from the fact that, after his first wife's death, George LACY married in 1907 my mother's sister, Ethel RICHARDS. He was elected in 1912 Desha County Sheriff and Collector, and served until his death of a heart attack in 1922.
My intention is to present in the near future a program at a meeting of the Desha County Historical Society based on the life of George LACY. I have lots of data on him after he arrived in Southeast Arkansas, but very little about his roots in Louisiana and in wherever the LACY family came from before coming to Louisiana.
Any help from your available resources will be much appreciated. Or perhaps you can direct me to some other source of LACY family information. Thanks in advance. Louis Reitzammer at Jackson, Tennessee

LANGENBECKER
I am trying to locate any information on a Dr. Karl LANGENBECKER, doctor of the 13th Louisiana Infantry, Confederate Army. We have very little information on him, except what was recorded from the Battle Perryville, Ky. After the battle Dr. Langenbecker volunteered to remain behind to assist the town's doctor with injured soldiers of both sides. He later became ill and died on December 21st, 1862. The town's doctor buried him in his own family plot, marking the grave with a simple stone. Over the years, the stone disappeared and all trace of the Confederate doctor was lost. Recently an article surfaced that told of this information and his grave was located once more.
Before Karl Langenbecker's death he told a local citizen who came to visit him that he "wanted to return to his family in New Orleans". We do know that he was born in Prussia (Now part of Germany) and that he was married and had at least one child.
The sad part of this story that his grand-daughter search for years, trying to locate his grave and may have just recently died. None of this was known to her.....The Son's Of Confederate Veterans would like to place a gravestone at his grave. If there is any information, could you please pass it on to me?
This is very important and something that we in Kentucky and Louisiana owe this special man and his family. He volunteered to remain behind in enemy hands to care for the soldiers and gave his life only to be buried in a place unknown to his family. Please help us honor the Louisiana Soldier/Doctor/Martyr.
