Whe should always remember our military heroes, both past and present. They put themselves in harm's way so that each of us may enjoy the freedoms in our lives that brings us happiness and success. These pages are a few reminders of the many heroes of Beauregard Parish that sacrificed their time and lives for our freedoms.
The Hyatt Brothers in the Civil War
Jasper Newton Hyatt was my great grandfather. The following is part of a story written by the 28th (Thomas') Louisiana Infantry Regiment.
"The four Hyatt brothers who enlisted together with the 28th (Thomas') Infantry Regiment were the children of Samuel Terrell Hyatt Jr. and his wife Elizabeth Etheridge (whose brother Benjamin served in the 24th MIssissippi Infantry Reg). Samuel had a total of ten children, nine of who were boys. The military services of the other sons in not known at this time. Samuel was a school teacher who was born in South Carolina, lived for a time in Washington County, ALA area, and moved from the Ellisville, MS area about 1856 with his wife, his sister Henrietta and her husband. The present day Hyatt High School in Beauregard Parish is named for this man."

Archibald Enoch Hyatt, Pvt Co. A, 28th (Thomas') LA Inf.
Enlisted April 6, 1862
Died in Regimental Hospital near Vicksburg, MS Oct 24, 1862. He was born Dec 25, 1832. According to my grandmother, Ella Nora Hyatt Stanley, Arch died of blood poisoning from a fish hook.

Doctor Solomon Hyatt, Pvt, Co A 28th (Thomas') LA Inf
Enlisted April 6, 1862 Captured and paroled at Vicksburg, MS on July 4, 1863.
Returned to Beauregard Parish and married Nancy Emily Hoosier d/o David Hoosier and Lucy Adelaide Clark
Died on Windham Creek Feb 19, 1919 and is buried in Hyatt Cem in Fields, La.

Elias Marion Hyatt, Pvt Co A, 28th (Thomas') LA Infantry
Enlisted: April 6, 1862 Captured and paroled at Vicksburg, MS July 4, 1863. Later served the CSA in Sabine Pass, Paroled again in Pineville LA June 1865.
Elias married Mary Ann Hoosier (sister of Nancy Emily Hoosier Hyatt) and had one daughter, Fredonia in 1867.
He is buried in the Hyatt Cem at Fields, LA.

Jasper Newton married Martha Louise Jacobs d/o Elisha Jacobs and Caroline Bass. Martha is reportedly a Mayflower descendant. They had 12 children ( one being my grandmother Ella Nora).
Jasper Newton Hyatt died on Bearhead Creek and is buried in Hyatt Cem.
