Thomas Aaron May, age 83, of Winnsboro died, Wednesday, January 18, 2006 at the
Franklin Medical Center in Winnsboro. He was preceded in death by forty-eight
hours by his wife of forty-nine years, Hazel S. May.
Born May 9, 1922 in
Columbia, LA to the union of Saint Elmo and Maggie Coates May, Mr. May was a
World War II veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was a graduate of
Louisiana State University with a degree in agricultural engineering. He retired
from the US Department of Agriculture, North Louisiana Soil Conservation
District in 1985. Mr. May was a member of the First Baptist Church in Winnsboro.
He was an accomplished gardener and for years loved repairing antique clocks.
Mr. May enjoyed returning to his birthplace in Columbia where he was an avid
hunter and charter member of the May Hunting Club.
Mr. and Mrs. May are
survived by their son: Stanley Ray Mixon of Jackson, MS, their daughter: Marion
Mixon Johnston and her husband: Donnie of New Orleans, five grandchildren: Robin
Mixon Colby of Atlanta, GA, Amanda Johnston Talley of Bowling Green, KY, Shelley
Mixon Waller of Winnsboro, Mathew Aaron Mixon and Lacey Lea Mixon both of
Jackson, MS and six great-grandchildren: Joshua Ryan Colby, Jonathon Reagan
Colby, Braxton Everett Talley, Jackson Thomas Talley, Zachery Waller and Zadiee
Waller.
Mr. May is also survived by his brother: Leo May of Columbia and
his sisters: Effie May Hinton of Monroe and Arvenia May Blackmon and her
husband: Mayo of West Monroe.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made
to the Hazel S. May Memorial Fund, First Baptist Church, 502 Highland,
Winnsboro, LA 71295 or to the Fellowship Cemetery Fund, 136 Fellowship Road,
Columbia, LA 71295.
