It is with sorrow that we announce the death of this distinguished gentleman. He died at Winnsboro, Franklin parish, on the night of the 16th instant. His remains were brought from Delhi on the cars and were buried yesterday in the Monroe Cemetery, with Masonic honors. He was a bright and prominent Mason, having attained an eminence in the Fraternity, such as befitted his learning and talents. Mr. Slack was a thorough and accurate scholar, a most proficient rhetorician and elocutionist, an accomplished and winning orator and a Lawyer of rare skill, acumen and profundity. He stood among the leaders of the Monroe Bar and as a pleader in criminal cases had no superior in Louisiana. He was a valuable citizen and the whole community will feel his loss.
