The Franklin Sun, of the 12th inst., says:
Judge Van Thomas died at 1
o'clock this morning. He was one of our most energetic, public-spirited and
esteemed citizens. Arriving here in 1858, by his natural and acquired
endowments, he soon gained a prominent stand in the community; entered upon the
course of a journalist just before the war as our successor. During the war he
served in the capacity of Adjutant in Major Wyche's Battalion of State troops.
After the war he engaged in farming, from which pursuit he was called by the
people electing him Parish Judge, the position he held at his death.
