Eastwick, George S.

Submitted by Mike Miller George S. Eastwick, general manager of the American Sugar Refinery company of New Orleans, was born in the "City of Brotherly Love" in 1858, but was reared chiefly in New York city, and graduated in the class of 1879 in civil engineering from Columbia college. He first engaged in the sugar refining business in Jersey City, in which his father was interested, and there acquired a thorough knowledge of the business. In the year. 1880, in conjunction with English and Canadian capitalist., he established and built the Moncton sugar refinery in New Brunswick at the bead of the Bay of Fundy, but in 1882 left there and came to New Orleans, as soon after identified himself with the Crescent City Sugar Refining company. In 1883, in connection with S. Wallis, Ed Richardson, Mr. Kenner and others, he organized the Louisiana Sugar Refining company, and built the refineries for this company. These refineries, together with the Planters' Sugar Refining company, passed into the hands of the American Sugar Refining company in 1887, of which company Mr. Eastwick became general manager, which position he still holds in New Orleans. He brings to bear the highest order of ability and has made the business a most successful one. Their trade extends over a wide territory, and the product of the establishment has already gained the highest reputation. The refinery is supplied with all the latest devices and appliances and the most skillful workmen are employed. Mr. Eastwick is a member of the Boston, Pickwick and other clubs. His father, E P. Eastwick, was a member of the firm of Havemeyers, Eastwick & Company, sugar refiners, of New York city.
