George W. Flynn was born in New Orleans in 1852, and was educated at St. Mary's academy and graduated from Tulane university in the law class of 18--. In 1878 he was appointed chief clerk of the department of public works, which position he filled for ten years. In July, 1888, he was appointed as state supervisor of registration for the parish of Orleans, which important position and office he has filled with honor and satisfaction ever since. In 1878 Mr. Flynn was united in the bonds of matrimony with Miss Mary E. O'Donnell of the Crescent city, and daughter of Arthur O'Donnell, native of Baltimore, Md. The fruits of this union have been two children, daughters, who still live. Our subject is a member of Columbia lodge No. 2, K. of P. Socially Mr. Flynn is a member of the Young Men's Gymnastic club, the Columbia Athletic club, and Rein Deer club; has been secretary of the democratic state committee under Governor Nicholls; in 1888 was elected by the city council to fill a vacancy in the school board, and was subsequently unanimously elected and served on the board till 1888. Mr. Flynn is a stanch and influential democrat, and in 1888 was nominated on the democratic ticket for the office of comptroller, but was defeated by the Young Men's Democratic association. Mr. Flynn is a brilliant and fluent conversationalist, genial and courteous in manner, a gentleman of clear thought, sound judgment, admired and respected for his honesty and integrity. He is self made, and is looked upon as one of the prominent young men of the new South. Our subject is an able lawyer, possessing keen discrimination, which enables him to detect the points of an argument or solve an intricate question. His wide experience has fitted him for the position which he now so ably and successfully fills.
