Shaw, J. F.

J. F. Shaw was born in New Orleans, February 18, 1859. He is the son of J. F. Shaw, Sr., and was reared in New Orleans and educated in the public schools of that city. He began life as a clerk for Taylor & Logan, commission merchants in that city, and remained in their employ for eight months, when he engaged with John Calder & Son, as clerk, and was in their employ for three years. He then entered the employ of the Southern Pacific Railroad Company, and, after remaining with them for seven years, resigned his position and returned to the employ of Calder & Son, agent of two separate plantations in St. Mary parish, the Alice E. and Choupique. He has held this position since 1885.

Mr. Shaw was married in 1886 to Miss Nellie Riley, a native of St. Paul, Minnesota, and a daughter of Cornelius Riley.
