Mr. Gustave Laurents, a prominent citizen of this parish, died at his home on Lake Arthur Friday evening, 25th ult., at 6 o'clock after a short illness , aged 62 years. The deceased was for many years a conspicuous figure in public life, and was a man of education and accomplished attainments. He leaves a large family most of whom are grown, and many friends to lament his sudden taking off.

Lafayette Advertiser- On March 25th of March, 1887, Mr. Gustave Laurents well known here, died at his home at Lake Arthur, in the 62d year of his age, after a short illness. Deceased was a native of Calcasieu parish, but came to this place when a young man and taught school here from 1849 to 1852, when on account of failing health, he moved to Lake Arthur, where he has since resided. He was a worthy, upright citizen, and had the esteen and respect of all who knew him. His neighbors can testify, who knew him best, that he was ever ready to lend a helping hand to those in distress. His wife and nine children survive him.
