Luc LeDoux

After an illness of several weeks, Mr. Luc LeDoux died at his home at Lake Arthur Tuesday morning, September 10th.

He was born in St. Martinville, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Valry LeDoux, November 9, 1858, the eldest of seven children. He was the last survivor of this family. He was reared in St. Martinville and attended St. Charles College, Grand Coteau, La., and with his cousin went to Fordham University in New York.

On September 9th, 1880, Mr. LeDoux was married to Miss Rosa Laurents and of this union seven children were born - two, Carmelite and Willie having died very young. The eldest child Valry, died in 1928.

Besides his widow, he leaves a son, Earl of Kinder, three daughters, Mrs. Arthu LeRosen of Shreveport, Miss Ita LeDoux of Lake Arthur, Mrs. Maurice Montagne of Gueydan, also three grandchildren, Arthur LeDoux LeRosen and Nancy LeRosen of Shreveoprt and Curtis LeDoux of Sour Lake, Texas.

When first married, Mr. and Mrs. LeDoux lived on a large tract of land owned by them in old Calcasieu Parish and Mr. LeDoux dealt in cattle. They later moved to Oberlin where Mr. LeDoux was one of the pioneer merchants of that place. He was known as a man of his word, honest and honorable and in this new home made many friends. He held positions of trust and responsibility.

After retiring from the mercantile business he and his family moved to the present home. For a number of yeaers he erved his parish as police juror from his ward and was well known throughout the parish.

In 1930 this lovable couple celebrated their Golden Wedding by having open house. Besides their many friends calling throughout the day, bringing loving gifts of gold, they received messages of love and congratulations from all over the state. The day before his death marked their 55th Wedding Anniversary.

He was a devoted husband and a kind, tender father. His passing means the departure of a gentleman of the old school.

Services were held in the little Shell Beach Chapel with Father Demonsabert officiating and Houssiere undertakers in charges.
