The first Federal Population Census was taken in 1790, and has
been taken every ten years since. However, data from early census
records, 1790 – 1840, is somewhat limited in the information they
provide. Typically the early census records only give the head of
households name and the number of occupants. Starting with the
1850 census all members of the household are listed.
Important Note: The 1820 Census covers both East and West
Feliciana Parish and is listed as “Feliciana Parish.” In 1824 the
Parish was split into East and West.
