Meral, Emil J.

Submitted by Mike Miller

Emile J. Meral, attorney, New Orleans, La., an influential member of the bar, was born in the Crescent city December 2, 1857, and there attained his growth and received his education. His father, William Meral, was a native of France and a merchant by occupation. His death occurred in 1885. The mother, Aimee Chaulet, was born in Louisiana and is now a resident of that state. Emile J. Meral was thoroughly educated in the private schools of New Orleans and became proficient in French, English and Latin. He subsequently began the study of law in the office of the late J. L. Tissot, was admitted to the bar in 1882, and at once began practicing in the city, where he has continued ever since. As a lawyer he is a ready and fluent speaker and is well fitted to the profession he has chosen. He practices in the civil branch of the law. He was the president of the St. Maurice Benevolent association. He holds membership in the Catholic church. Mr. Meral chose for his wife Miss Berthe Bouny, and their nuptials were celebrated in 1887. She died in 1889 leaving two children, a son and daughter.
