Montgomery, Albert

Albert Montgomery is a live stock commission merchant with his office at the stockyards, New Orleans, La. He is also a cattle feeder, operating both at New Orleans, La., and Meridian, Miss., where he owns large and well-equipped plants. He also has a cattle ranch in Fort Bend county, Tex., and in connection with Mr. J. M. Frost, of Houston, Tex., is perhaps the only breeder in this country of zebu or sacred cattle and at the head of his herd has two pure-bred bulls imported at large cost from Calcutta, India. These cattle have a large hump on their shoulders which by a strange provision of nature adapts them to warm climates. They have a wonderful digestive organ and thrive on the coarsest grasses where the pampered Durham or Hereford would die or degenerate into scrubs. Mr. Montgomery is an enthusiast on these cattle, owing to their wonderful adaptability to the South, where the highly bred domestic beef breeds have all proven a failure.
