Hiriart, Charles A.

Hiriart, Charles A., M. D., well known physician and merchant, Plaquemine, La., was born at Plaquemine, La., June 14 1881, son of Sebastian and Menora (Barker) Hiriart, the former of whom was born in the same locality as was the son, and was a graduate of the medical department of Tulane university. He practiced medicine at Plaquemine throughout his professional career, and died in that city March 2, 1906, at the age of 59 years. He is survived by his wife at this time, who resides at Plaquemine. The paternal grandfather, Paul Hiriart, came from France. Chas. A. Hiriart was the first of 4 children born to his parents, 2 of these being now deceased. The other living child being Paul, now residing in Plaquemine. In the course of his education Charles A. Hiriart attended the high school at his home town, later taking the course of study at Jefferson college, Convent, La., and then matriculating at Tulane university, where he remained 2 years as a student in the academic department. He then entered the medical department of the latter institution, in 1903, and took the 4-year course, afterward studying at the University of the South, Sewanee, Tenn., during the 1908 term. Following this he resumed study at Tulane university, but was obliged to return home on account of the death of his father. Shortly afterward he began the practice of medicine at Plaquemine, in which he has since remained active. Apart from his medical practice, the doctor owns a general merchandise and drug store in his home city. He is a member of the Iberville parish Medical society and the Order of Eagles, and is affiliated with the Catholic church. March 25, 1909, Dr. Hiriart was married to Miss Morma Sayers, a daughter of Rev. N. L. Sayers, now located at Kinder, La. Mrs. Hiriart was born at Plaquemine. They have no children.
