Albert D. Holman and brother Melcher W. Holman left Autauga County, AL, probably late 1839 or early 1840 for Caddo Parish, LA, and settled ultimately near Mansfield which was in the larger Caddo Parish at the time (Desoto Parish was formed in 1843). The 1840 US Census lists both in Caddo Parish. Melcher was married to an Elizabeth Jackson and Albert was unmarried at the time.
Albert and Melcher had left Orangeburg District, SC in the early 1820s with their parents, Joseph and Anne Parler Holman along with other siblings and settled in "Dutch Bend," Autauga County, AL. Not long after arriving in Autauga County their father Joseph died, exact date unknown.
Albert was born abt. 1809 in Bull Swamp, Orangeburg District, SC, and died sometime after 1840 as he is lost after the 1840 Census. Melcher W. Holman was born in 1813 in the same place as Albert and died 24 Apr 1849 in Mansfield, Desoto Parish, LA. He married Elizabeth Jackson on 21 Nov 1837 in Autauga County, AL. She was born 13 Jul 1820 in Fort Payne, AL and died on 26 Jun 1857, Mansfield, Desoto Parish, LA. They had 3 children listed below:
1. Parlor S. Holman, b. 18 Dec 1843, Texas, d. 4 Nov 1876, Mansfield, LA (never married) Served as a 1st Lt in Co. F, 9th LA Infantry, captured and held POW at Johnson's Island, Ohio.
2. Julia Delilah Holman, b. 14 Jun 1845, Mansfield, LA, d. 6 Dec 1880, Mansfield, LA m. William Newton Cunningham, b. 12 May 1836, Pike Co, MS, d. 12 Mar 1909, Mansfield, LA
3. Sara Jane Holman, b. 23 Jan 1847, d. 3 Jul 1857, Mansfield, LA (mother likely died from complications giving birth to Sara) Larry Holman 2nd Cousin, 4X removed Vicksburg, MS.
