My gggg grandfather was John Thompson who arrived in the Caddo area sometime around 1820. He traveled there with a George S. Garner who had married John's daughter, Elizabeth Thompson. Also traveling with John was William Iles, Jr. who had married John's daughter Nancy Thompson.

They ended up with large plantation with 1000 acres plus. William Iles Jr. died in Caddo parish in 1850. Nancy continued to run the plantation and died in Caddo In April of 1864. John Thompson died in March of 1839. His succesion papers are in the oldest book of wills and successions in the Clerk of Court records in Shreveport.

When John Thompson and his entourage arrived in the area there was no Shreveport then to speak of. William Iles Jr. and Nancy Thompson Iles built a very successful plantation and it is my belief that their graves are on that plantation ground as it is today. I have not been able to find their grave sites.

John Thompson's son Archibald Thompson, who was counted on the Caddo 1840 Federal census along with his son John, I believe he is also buried where ever the Iles's are buried. I know that John Thompson senior lived in his own household on the Iles plantation. There was a 16 year old girl taking care of him when he became ill and died in March of 1839.

There was a Dr. Nixon who was treating him when he died with, I believe, consumption.The Noel's (Richard Taylor Noel) and other Noel's including the Noel who was a rich owner of dry goods stores. William Iles Jr. had a succession also and I have a copy of it. His wife Nancy Thompson Iles also had a succession too, but there was only two pages that I could find of it. It may be complete somewhere in the court records. I have not been back up there to try and search for it.
