Acts #601 - 800

No. 601 2/397 On May 6, 1828 John FUQUA ratifies the act of December 11, 1827 and recorded No. 486 in Book D, page 127, between his brother Nathaniel D. FUQUA and Mrs. Henry S. THIBODAUX. Witnessed by Phineas D. HAMPTON and signed by John FUQUA.

No. 602 2/397 On May 18, 1828 Stephen BOWIE sold land to Elbert WOODWARD of Petersbourg, Virginia to wit; 27 1/2 arpens front on East bank of Bayou Grand Caillou, with depth as the certificate of confirmation calls for, bounded above by land of Major Isaac THOMAS and below by land of Madam Richard TERREL, in consideration, Elbert WOODWARD in this sale as, a consideration 2 Negroes, Fill, age about 22 years and Sally, aged about 18 years, plus 2 women under 30 years and 6 children. Land Patent was not issued, so titles of slaves will stay in his name and land to be mortgaged in favor of vendor, until delivery of slaves. Witnessed by Lemuel TANNER and Joseph DELAPORTE.

No. 603 On May 9, 1828 Leander B. THIBODAUX, executor of the estate of the late Henry S. THIBODAUX received the sum of $4,000.00, which William S. WATKINS was owing to the estate, according to a mortgage dated June 3, 1826, in Book C, pages 375 and 376. The said THIBODAUX hereby giving to the said WATKINS full discharge annulling the said mortgage. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE and A. H. VERRET.

No. 604 2/399 On May 9, 1828 William S. WATKINS, for the sum of $4,000.00 sold land to Henry S. THIBODAUX, represented by Leondre B. THIBODAUX to wit; a tract containing 10 arpens front on west side of Bayou Terrebonne, with such depth as the certificate of confirmation calls for, bounded above by land of William RODDY and below by land of the succession of H. S. THIBODAUX. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE and A. H. VERRET.

No. 605 On May 10, 1828 Jean BRUCE of Lafourche Interior Parish, received $152.00 the price of land sold as the property belonging to the community, which existed between the deceased Marie Carmelite LEBLANC and said Jean BRUCE on November 19, 1825. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORT and August H. VERRET.

No. 606 On May 10, 1828 Pierre CAZEAUX, of Terrebonne Parish had received from Simon CUCULLU, pere, with the Power of attorney for the Widow Pierre GUENO, Testamentary executor of deceased Pierre GUENO $3,200.00 due to minor children Leverine, Telcide Louise and Louis Armond CAZEAUX by representation of their mother Mrs. Celeste GUENO, wife of the appeared. According to the recorder there is no mortgage other than the one agreed to in favor of the curator of the succession of Antoine RAUCH, as security for $153.18. Witnessed by Octave deARMAS and Pierre Victor BARKETT.

No. 607 On February 16, 1818 Stephen BOWIE sold land to A. B. STINETT to wit; a certain tract or parcel of land, situated, lying and being on the Bayou Grand Caillou, containing 12 arpens front, with 40 arpens in depth, being same which the said STINETT purchased from G. CHRETIEN, by act before F. ST MARTIN, Notary Public parish of Ascension. Witnessed Thomas C. NICHOLLS and John TURNER.

No. 608 On March 18, 1828 A. B. STINETT, of Assumption Parish sold land to Mr. Thomas BUTLER, of West Feliciciana Parish to wit; a tract of land containing 480 arpens, situate on Bayou Grand Caillou, part of tract embracing 1 League front on both sides of said bayou, with a depth of 40 arpens, the title confirmed in the name of Joseph TALBO, by survey made by John C. TURNER on April 1, 1826, for $1500.00. Witnessed by Willis V. VICK and Ate. TETE.

No. 609 On May 13, 1828 Jean Charles TERRIO and Louis Lazard TERRIO, both of the Parish of Lafourche Interior, who have declared that they renounce the succession of their father Jean Charles TERRIO. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE and August H. VERRET.

No. 610 2/381 On March 29, 1828 James A. WITHERSPOON sold land to James BOWIE for $2,500.00 to wit; on the west south of Bayou Black 12 1/2 arpens front by running back westwardly 40 arpens, containing 500 arpens. Same tract sold by BOWIE to WITHERSPOON in February last, being one half of the 1,000 arpens contained in the sale.

No. 611 2/400 On May 16, 1828 Jean Baptiste DANTIN of the Parish of Lafourche Interior, sold land to Aubin B. THIBODAUX to wit; all rights, titles or pretentions in a piece of land conceded in his name on Bayou L’eau Bleue at Grand Brule and $400.00 that Mathurin PITRE of Lafourche Interior owes him according to a contract of sale between Jean Baptiste DANTIN and Mathurin PITRE on December 27, 1825, recorded in Book C, pages 118 and 119 No. 335. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE and A. H. VERRET.

No. 612 On May 17, 1828 James CAROTHERS of Ascension Parish sold land to John C. TURNER for $4,000.00 to wit; a tract of land in Terrebonne Parish containing 608 77/100 superficial acres, being a tract of land confirmed in the name of Michel DUVAL, by act of Congress approved May 11, 1820, No. 595 in commissioner report on land claims in Southeastern District of Louisiana. Witnessed by John MILLS and John H. KOLEY.

No. 613 On May 17, 1828 John C. TURNER of Ascension Parish received $4,000.00 from James L. CAROTHERS for a tract of land 600 superficial acres, being a tract of land confirmed in the name of Francois VERRET, by act of Congress passed February 28, 1823 No. 241 in commissioner’s report on land claims in Southeastern District of Louisiana. Witnessed by John MILLS and John C. TURNER.

No. 614 On May 24, 1828 Mrs. Brigite BELLANGER, widow of Henry S. THIBODAUX, Testamentary executrix of the deceased Henry S. THIBODAUX, withdrawal pure and simple. of the mortgage taken in favor of Henry S. THIBODAUX on a Negress and her three children, belonging to Mr. Joseph MONSAN dated May 15, 1826, Record Book C. pages No. 157 and No. 369. Witnessed by Joseph Cyprien DULIE and Joseph DELAPORTE.

No. 615 2/401 On May 24, 1828 Joseph MONSAN sold to Joseph DELAPORTE a Negress named Sallie aged about 30 years and her three children; George aged about 7 years, Wami aged about 3 years and Joseph aged about 2 years, for $575.00. Witnessed by H. M. THIBODAUX and Henry C. THIBODAUX.

No. 616 On January 26, 1818 Michel DEVAL of St. Mary Parish, sold land to James L. CARUTHERS for $800.00 to wit; a tract containing 608 77/100 superficial acres, confirmed to me by U. S. No. 595. Witnessed by Wm. W. WOFFORD, Etienne PENISSON, Celina E. WOFFORD, William Washington WOFFORD.

No. 617 On March 29, 1828 James BOWIE, through his attorney Stephen BOWIE sold land to James A. WITHERSPOON of Franklin County Mississippi, for $2,500 to wit; on East side of Bayou Black, fronting 12 1/2 arpens on said bayou, running back 40 arpens, adjourning tract of same size and quantity sold heretofore by James BOWIE to James A. WITHERSPOON. Signed H. TOOLEY Notary Public.

No. 618 2/403 On June 7, 1828 Lemuel TANNER sold land to Andre GAUBERT to wit; 2 arpens front on each side of Bayou Terrebonne, from lower line of the land Lemuel TANNER bought from Charles BERTOT, going up, exchanged for land 4 arpens front on Left bank of Bayou Terrebonne, being same he bought from Thomas FITCH by act dated December 18, 1826. Witnessed by H. M. THIBODAUX and Joseph DELAPORTE.

No. 619 2/402 On June 17, 1828 Mrs. Brigite BELLANGER, widow Henry S. THIBODAUX made a donation to Heloise VERRET by these presents, represented by her husband, Andre GAUBERT, to wit; a certain tract of land 1 arpent front on each side of Bayou Terrebonne, with depth as survey calls for, bounded above by land Andre GRABERT acquired from Lemuel TANNER this day, bounded below by land of donator. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE and Evariste PORCHE.

No. 621 On May 20, 1828 Stephen BOWIE at New Orleans, Louisiana sold land to Dr. Robert Henry ROSE to wit; a tract situated in Terrebonne Parish, having 18 or more arpens fronting on Bayou Grand Caillou, by 40 arpens in depth, bounded above by land of John JONES, below by land of Judge BUTLER and in the rear by vacant land, lands purchased from Joseph TALBO by act dated April 10, 1825, passed before Hezekiah DUNHAM, Notary Public Avoyelles Parish, land confirmed to TALBO on May 11, 1820 exchanged for 10 Negro slaves to wit; Solomon aged about 30 years, Rachel aged about 25 years, and three children Gabriel aged about 6 years, Julie about 4 years and Elizabeth about 2 years. The other 5 slaves shall be 2 women under 30 years of age and three children, all sound and free from the vices and maladies provided against by law. Witnessed by Charles A. F. No. 622 On March 28, 1828 William MORTON of Charles County sold to Edmond FANGUY for $350.00 to wit; a slave Negress named Eveline about 13 years of age. Witnessed by Jean Marie CASTAREDE and William LAKE. Signed by Wm. MORTON, Jno. H. B. MORTON, Edmond FANGUY and William BOSWELL Notary Public at New Orleans, Louisiana.

No. 623 On June 17, 1818 the sale of all the movable possessions belonging to the succession of the deceased Jean Charles TERRIO, deceased “ab intesta” in this Parish for $423.75. Signed by Pierre CHIASSON, Charles DUPRE, Jean DUPRE fils, Ronaud BOUDREAUX and Judge Leufroy BARRAS.

No. 624 2/404 On June 18, 1828 Jean Baptiste Theodore HENRY and heirs and representatives of the deceased Marie BOUDROT, the first wife of Jean Baptiste HENRY, Jean Baptiste HENRY, Francois Constant HENRY tutor of her child, assisted also by Charles DUPRE, her brother, and Guillaume C. HENRY. Since the death of Marie BOUDROT, there is found a piece of land 30 arpens front, divided as follows; 18 arpens from lower boundary in ascending below to Jean Baptiste Theodore HENRY as his right to 1/2 and 3 arpens he inherits from deceased son, David HENRY, 3 arpens to Guillaume C. HENRY, 3 arpens to the succession of deceased Charles M. HENRY, 3 arpens to Francois Constant HENRY and 3 arpens to Jean Baptiste HENRY. Witnessed by Pierre CHIASSON and Renaud BOUDREAUX.

No. 625 M. /100 On June 18, 1828 an inventory of deceased Marie BOUDREAUX, wife of Jean Baptiste Theodore HENRY valued at $100.00. Witnessed by Pierre CHIASSON, Charles DUPRE, Jean Baptiste HENRY, Francois HENRY and Guillaume HENRY.

No. 626 2/405 On June 18, 1828 Jean DUPRE Sr., acting in these presents for and in the name of Marie Emilie DUPRE, his daughter, who has by these presents, sold land to Mathurin DUPRE to wit; two and one half arpens front on each side of Bayou Terrebonne, bounded above by lands of the purchaser and below by land of Jean Mathurin DUPRE, for $250.00. Witnessed by Pierre CHIASSON and Reined BOUDREAUX.

No. 627 2/415 On June 18, 1828 at New Orleans Stephen BOWIE was paid $1,000.00 by Mrs. Lucite MARTIN, wife of Richard TERRELL of Natchez, Mississippi, for 500 arpens on Bayou Grand Caillou, to wit; lower corner on the east side of said bayou, with front as to make 500 arpens with a depth of 40 arpens, part of tract purchased by vendor of Joseph TALBOT, about April 10, 1827. No. 628 2/406 On June 19, 1828 Mrs. Brigite BELLANGER widow H. S. THIBODAUX sold land to Ambrose GIBSON of Warren County Mississippi, represented by his brother Tobias GIBSON to wit; on left bank of bayou L’eau Bleue, containing 640 superficial acres bounded above and North by vacant land, East, vacant land, South land confirmed in name of Walter GILBERT and now belonging to Mrs. THIBODAUX, West side by Bayou L’eau Bleue, according to plat dated April 12, 1828 signed by Jas. ALLISON P.D. surveyor for $4,000.00. Witnessed by Lemuel TANNER and George LAKE.

No. 630 2/407 On June 25, 1828 Eugenie THIBODAUX wife of Joseph Paul BOURGEOIS, assisted by her husband and Pierre CAZEAUX, agent for Marie Joseph BABIN widow Charles GAUDIN, bought from Mrs. GAUDIN a Negress named Oroline, by act March 5 for $600.20. Mrs. Eugenie THIBODAUX sells, cedes and retroceded to Mrs. GAUDIN the salve Oroline. Witnessed by L. B. THIBODAUX and Ase. DUGAS.

No. 631 2/408 On June 25, 1828 Etienne BILLIOT, a free colored man, sold to the Estate of Henry S. THIBODAUX for $1,000.00 to wit: First, a piece of land containing 15 arpens front on each side of Bayou Terrebonne, all between the lower line boundary of Joseph MILBORNE and upper line of lands of Pierre BRUNET. Second, half of the part that comes to him, conceded by his deceased mother, Mariana PRICE. Thirdly, a mortgage taken in favor of the vendor on a piece of land, that he has sold to Charles PERKINS, by act dated March 17, 1826. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE and Ase. DUGAS.

No. 632 1/99 On June 30, 1828 Marie Magdelaine GUIDRY, wife of Charles BENOIT, declared that they have received everything of the deceased H. S. THIBODAUX, before his death, except the sum $119.86, her part of the succession of her deceased father Pierre GUIDRY. Witnessed by Ase. DUGAS and Aaron KING.

No. 633 On June 8, 1828 James BOWIE sold land to Thomas HURST of Lorence County Mississippi to wit; 200 arpens lying and being on Bayou Dularge or Bufelo Bayou, to be taken off the upper end of the lower tract of the said BOWIE on east side for $800.00 or $4.00 per arpent. Witnessed by Edmond HOGAN and Robert VALENTIN.

No. 634 2/416 On July 4, 1828 Evariste PORCHE sold, ceded, abandoned and delivered to widow Urbain ARSENEAUX a whole habitation situated in the Parish of Pointe Coupee, on left bank of Folse River, containing 6 arpens, more or less, front, by depth therein found, with all the buildings, improvements and functions there unto, bounded on the one side by Martha, a free woman of color and secondly 2 slaves, one named Marianne, about 48 years old, and the other named Joe, about 55 years old. Same land and slaves vendor acquired from Francois ST. MARTIN by act passed before Judge B. HUBBARD of Assumption Parish, same land acquired at Public Sale made by Judge DORMENON of Pointe Coupee Parish, of the possessions of the deceased Guillaume ANDRE for $2000.00. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE and Henry C. THIBODAUX.

No. 635 2/410 On July 4, 1828 widow Urbain ARSENEAUX sold, ceded, abandoned and delivered to Evariste PORCHE to wit; a Negro named Pierre about 28 years old and Martin about 27 years old, both slaves for life, for $1,700.00, which was her part in the succession of her deceased father, with interest from June 17, 1825. The widow to pay Hypolite PORCHE $130.00 and both agreed the sale passed between themselves January 22, 1827 recorded in Book “D” pages 37 and 38 is abrogated and annulled. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE and H. C. THIBODAUX.

No. 636 On May 26, 1825 Lemuel TANNER sold a certain Negro girl named Sara of about 54 years old, to Leufroy BARRAS for $700.00. Witnessed by Jacques VERRET, and DELAPORTE. Passed July 5, 1828.

No. 637 2/411 On July 7, 1828 Louis TOUPS and Joseph TOUPS, assisted by their mother Louise TOUPS widow George TOUPS and Pierre CAZEAUX and associate Joseph GUENO declared null and void an act passed December 23, 1825, recorded Book “C”, pages 105 and 106. Witnessed by James L. CAROTHERS and S. G. MOORE.

No. 638 2/412 On July 12, 1818 Marie BELMERE, widow Pierre LAMBERT sold land to George LAKE to wit; a tract of land situated in this Parish, on both sides of Bayou Terrebonne, about 8 miles from Lafourche, containing 6 arpens front, with depth survey calls for, bounded above by lands of Norbert BONVILAIN and below by lands of widow Urbain ARSENEAUX, for $1,500.00. Witnessed by Joseph J. DARCE and Joseph DELAPORTE.

No. 639 2/413 On July 12, 1828 John McHENRY and Mrs. Brigite BELLANGER widow Henry S. THIBODAUX annulled sale passed January 14, 1827 and found in Book “D” number 506, pages 149 and 150. Witnessed by J. HALL and Joseph DELAPORTE.

No. 640 2/414 On July 12, 1828 Jean Baptiste BEAUSERGENT, now of Thibodauxville, acting in his own name and as agent of his wife Marguerite BERGERON, sold land to Jean Louis HEBERT of Parish of Lafourche Interior to wit; 2 1/2 arpens front on right side and 2 arpens front on left side, with depth as the certificate of confirmation calls for, bounded above by lands of Jacques ADAM and below by lands of Rosemond BERGERON for $700.00, Witnessed by Jh. DELAPORTE and John McHENRY.

No. 641 On July 16, 1828 Leandre B. THIBODAUX, Testamentary Executor of the deceased Henry S. THIBODAUX gave withdrawal, pure and simple to Pierre CAZEAUX and Joseph GUENO of a mortgage taken in favor of the deceased Antoine ROUSSEL, dated December 16, 1822, number 91, for the sum of $462.50. Witnessed by Celestin BERGERON and E. PORCHE.

No. 642 2/417 On July 17, 1828 Jean Baptiste PERTUIT of St. James Parish, as agent of Felicite HEBERT, his wife, exchanged property to wit; to Lady Brigite BELLANGER exchanges, sells, cedes and abandons by title a piece of land situated in this Parish 6 1/3 arpens front, with depth as the survey calls for, being the undivided 1/3 of a larger quanity of land conceded in the name of Hypolite HEBERT, the deceased father of Mrs. Felicite HEBERT exchanged for a young Negress named Francoise about 14 years old, slave for life. This exchange made in consideration of a balance of $100.00, that Jean Baptiste PERTUIT obligates himself. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE and William ASHLEY. Signed by Brigite BELLANGER, L. THIBODAUX and Marcellin BONVILLAIN.

No. 643 2/418 On July 19, 1928 Pierre BONVILLAIN sells, cedes, abandons and retrocedes to Mrs. Henry S. THIBODAUX a piece of land containing 4 arpens front on each side of Bayou Terrebonne, bounded above by lands of J. B. MONIER on the right side of the bayou and bounded on the left side of the bayou by a piece of the land of the aforesaid widow THIBODAUX and below by lands of Norbert BONVILLAIN. Same land BONVILLAIN acquired from Henry S. THIBODAUX by act passed December 21, 1822, recorded Book “B” number 96 pages 8 and 9, for $1,200.00. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE and William ASHLEY.

No. 644 2/419 On July 19, 1828 Mrs. Brigite BELLANGER sells, cedes, abandons and delivered to Mr. Marcellin BONVILLAIN a piece of land situated in this Parish, on right side of Bayou Terrebonne, containing 3 arpens front, more or less, with depth of survey, bounded above by lands of Caleb B. WATKINS and below by Bayou Cane. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE and William ASHLEY.

No. 645 2/420 On July 21, 1828 Pierre BILLIOT and wife Marie JEANNE, both colored and free, sold, ceded, abandoned and delivered to Edmond FANGUY, a piece of land situated in this parish, containing 4 arpens, more or less, from the lower boundary of lands of the deceased Michel BILLIOT to the upper boundary of the lands of Joseph MONSAN, for $1,000.00. Witnessed by Joseph MILONE and P. M. BONVILLAIN.

No. 646 2/421 On July 24, 1828 Etienne BILLIOT, free colored man, domiciled in this Parish, sold, ceded, abandoned and delivered to Joseph MONSAN a piece of land situated in this Parish containing 5 arpens front, more or less, from boundary to boundary on each side of Bayou Terrebonne, with such depth as the Certificate of Confirmation calls for, bounded above by lands of Edmond FANGUY and below by lands of LABADIE and LAMOUREAUX for $1,000.00. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE and William ASHLEY.

No. 647 2/422 On July 28, 1828 Mrs. Brigite BELLANGER sold land to Mesrs. Pleasant B. COCKE of this Parish and Robert J. WALKER, of the City of Natchez, Mississippi, all rights titles and interests that the late Henry S. THIBODAUX or said widow have or may have to 3 islands called Timbalier, situated by mouth of Lafourche, Calina or Callumet, situated by mouth of Bayou Terrebonne or Darbonne and Casta or Castele island, located near mouth of Bayou Terrebonne or Darbonne, being part of the community which existed between Henry S. THIBODAUX and Brigite BELLANGER, having been adjudged vendor, at the estimation price by court of Probates, for $600.00. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE, John RODDY and B. G. ELLIS.

No. 648 2/423 On July 28, 1828 Pleasant B. COCKE and Robert J. WALKER did by these presents, give, grant and transfer all their rights, title and interest to 2 arpens of land situated on either of the islands of Timbalier and Casta or Callumet, to be located in one of the said Islands, by the said COCKE and WALKER for Richard G. ELLIS of Adams County Mississippi. Witnessed by Henry C. THIBODAUX and Joseph DELAPORTE.

No.649 2/391 Brigite BELLANGER sold land to Joseph BENOIT to wit; a piece of land 2 arpens front, by depth survey received by Deputy, situated on left bank of Bayou Terrebonne, bounded above by lands of Jean Baptiste BEAUSERGEANT and below by lands of S. G. MOORE, inconsideration of this sale, is that the said Joseph BENOIT has done work on another habitation, such as clear surroundings, etc., for the value of the land. Witnessed by Pre. Bin ROUSSEL and Eleonore CROCHET.

No. 650 On July 31, 1828 Robert J. WALKER of Natchez, Mississippi bought from William S. WATKINS and Betsy WATKINS late Betsy BAKER, his wife, both of Terrebonne Parish for $1,000.00 to wit; all the rights, title, interest and claim to 6 Negroes, John Francois and his wife aged 45 years, Daniel aged 16, Rosalie aged 10 years, Jenny aged 15 years, children of Francoise , and Arthur aged 19 years, and the tract of land WATKINS resides, containing 10 arpens front by 30 arpens deep on east side Bayou Terrebonne and 3 arpens front on the west side of Bayou Terrebonne by 10 arpens in depth, containing 330 arpens superficial, bordered on south by lands of Celestin BERGERON and Philip DARCE, north by Leandre CROCHET, east and west by vacant lands. No. 651 3/424 On August 6, 1828 Mathurin BOURG of Thibodauxville sold, ceded, abandoned and delivered to Mr. Lemuel TANNER 2 arpens front on right bank of Bayou Terrebonne, as may be seen in the act by which the said Mathurin BOURG bought it, which is registered in Book “D”, page 144 in this office, for a horse and note for $50.00. Witnessed by Wm. S. WATKINS and J. HALL.

No. 652 3/425 On August 8, 1828 William Claiborne WATKINS sold to Mr. Robert J. WALKER of Natchez, Mississippi land to wit; a piece of land situated in this Parish, on right bank of Bayou Terrebonne containing 3 arpens front, by such depth as the Certificate of confirmation calls for, bounded above by lands Philippe DARCE and below by lands Celestin BERGERON for $700.00 with $600.00 to be paid at the death of either Mr. WATKINS or his wife Betsy BAKER Witnessed by H. No. 663 On August 17, 1828 Lemuel TANNER, of this Parish declared by a deed passed in this office on December 19, 1827 and recorded in book “D”, pages 136 and 137. sold land to Richard KING and James BOWIE a certain tract of land for $2,000.00. for good reasons, the said TANNER release and annul the said mortgage on all land on the west side of Bayou Grand Caillou, while reserving the east side. No. 664 On August 19, 1828 in a conditional sale, Lemuel TANNER sold land to Robert J. WALKER, of Natchez Mississippi, to wit 1,000 arpens of land superficial measure, situated on Bayou Grand Caillou, being part of a tract containing 6,400 arpens, with a front of 80 arpens or thereabouts, on said bayou, and depth of 40 arpens on each side. The same being a claim confirmed to John TALREDO bounded South by lands of Joseph TALBO, East and West by vacant lands and North by lands of James BOWIE, nevertheless, the said Lemuel TANNER makes no guarantee against the alleged title of one Gerard CHRISTIAN, of Attakapas, to said land and in case the said Gerard CHRISTIAN succeeds in establishing a title to the said land, this sale to be null and void, but if said Gerard CHRISTIAN should fail in establishing his said claim to the land, then the sale is to continue in full force for $5.00 per superficial arpent. CAROTHERS, deputy surveyor dated March 18, 1827, land being the same confirmed to said CHIASSON, by an act of Congress, approved May 11, 1820, contained in their report to the commissioners of the General Land Office, dated November 20, 1816 No. 598, for $2,500. No. 705 3/457 On November 3, 1828 Mrs. Marguerite LEBOEUF, wife of Pierre CHIASSON, and assisted by him, who in the presence of the undersigned witnesses declared, that since her husband, on the Thirtieth of October, of the present year, has sold a piece of land, which is described above, in the said act by Mr. William BISLAND, for the sum of $2,500, she hereby acknowledges the said sale good and ratifies the said act and agrees that it be good and valid, as though she herself had signed it. No. 706 3/458 On November 5, 1828 Lemuel TANNER made a conditional sale to N. C. WADE, Natchez, Mississippi to wit; Lemuel TANNER sells, abandons and deliver unto N. C. WADE First, a tract of land of 12 1/2 arpens front on Bayou Caillou and joining the land sold by TANNER to Mr. WALKER and above land with 40 arpens depth. Second 7 1/2 arpens front, by 40 arpens in depth, joining with the land of Mr. WALKER below. Lemuel TANNER does not guarantee the land against the alleged title of Gerard CHRETIEN of Attakapas. No. 714 On November 12, 1828 Mrs. Brigite BELANGER, widow Henry S. THIBODAUX, testamentary executrix of Henry S. THIBODAUX, declares she gives withdrawal pure and simple to Pierre BONVILLAIN, of a mortgage taken on a mulatto named Claire, dated December 5, 1826 for the sum of $600.00. Witnessed by William H. No. 716 3/461 On November 11, 1828 Mrs. Brigite BELANGER, widow Henry S. THIBODAUX, declared for and in consideration of $3,800.00 she sold, abandoned, transferred, made over and delivered to Dr. D. D. DOWNING to wit; First a certain tract of land, situate in this Parish, about 8 miles from Bayou Lafourche, containing 4 arpens front, more or less, on each side of Bayou Terrebonne, bounded above by land of Pierre GAUTIER on the right bank and below, land of vendor, on the left, and below by land of Norbert BONVILLAIN, with such depth that the certificate or survey, calls for. Second, another tract of land containing 3 1/2 arpens , more or less, on left bank of Bayou Terrebonne, with such depth as survey or location calls for, bounded above by the tract above and opposite the Church. Third, a tract of land situate a few arpens above the tract here sold, containing 3 arpens front, more or less, on both sides of Bayou Terrebonne, bounded above by land of Jacques BONVILLAIN and below by land Aubin B. THIBODAUX sold, ceded, conveyed, transferred, assigned and set over unto Stephen BOWIE, of the Parish of Terrebonne, land to wit: a certain tract of land lying and situated in Terrebonne Parish, on both sides of Bayou Brule, commonly called Bayou L’eau Bleue, having 18 arpens front, containing 360 superficial arpens, more or less, bounded above by land of Congress and below by land sold by widow Brigite BELANGER to _______ GIBSON, on east side, first concession of lands, running back from Bayou Lafourche, and then on the west side, by first concession running to Bayou Terrebonne, for $3,000.00. No. 718 On October 9, 1828 John C. TURNER, of Adams County Mississippi, for and in consideration of $1600.00, paid by John A. QUITMAN, Duncan S. WALKER and Robert J. WALKER, all of Natchez Mississippi, and acknowledge, he hath granted, bargained and sold, conveyed, confirmed and by these presents doth grant, bargain and sell, convey and confirm unto the said John A. QUITMAN, Duncan S. WALKER and Robert J. WALKER to wit; all that certain tract or parcel of land, containing 600 superficial acres, in the Parish of Terrebonne, on Bayou Petite Terrebonne, having a front of about 1 mile, in extent, bounded above by land of Francois VERRET and below by vacant lands, it being the same tract of land which was confirmed by act of Congress, bearing date on February 28, 1823, in the name of Jacques VERRET, by whom it was conveyed to Henry S. THIBODAUX, and by him to John C. TURNER, the said tract to have such courses and distances as are laid down and marked out, in a plat of survey approved by James ALLISON, principal deputy surveyor for the Southeastern District. No. 719 On November 14, 1828 State of Louisiana Medical Board of Examiners. Know all men by these presents, that we, the President and members of the Medical Board of Examiners do hereby authorize Doctor Joseph A. THIBODAUX sold to Dr. D. D. DOWNING and below by land previously owned by Dr. D. D. DOWNING, this sale for $600.00. Witnessed by Aaron KING and Ambroise DUGAS.

No. 721 On November 11, 1828 William RODDY, in consideration of the sum of $600.00 to me, partly advanced in merchandise and partly to be hereafter advanced to me in Thibodauxville by Joseph CHANDLER, of the Parish of Lafourche Interior, in cash and merchandise, as called for and as per entry in his said CHANDLERS’S Store Book, do hereby mortgage and hypothecate the following, negro slaves for life, to wit; Dinah a woman, aged about 28 years, and Esther, a woman aged about 30 years, both healthy and sound in the body and mind, to secure the sum of $600.00, to the said Joseph CHANDLER. No. 722 3/463 On November 18, 1828 Alexandre VERDUN declared that for and in consideration of the sum $450.00, well and duly paid to him, in the presence of us, he hereby sells, cedes, abandons, conveys and delivers to Pierre CHIASSON land to wit; a piece of land situated below Bayou TERREBONNE and containing 10 arpens front on each side of Bayou TERREBONNE, with such depth as the certificate of confirmation calls for, bounded above by land of Joseph GREGOIRE and below by person unknown. No. 723 3/451 On October 17, 1828 Jacques VERRET inhabitant and domiciled in Terrebonne Parish has by these presents sold, ceded. abandoned and delivered, with all the legal warranties to Mr. Leufroy BARRAS, also of this Parish, land situate in this parish about, about 5 miles from Bayou Lafourche, 3 arpens front on each bank of Bayou Terrebonne, with depth as the Certificate of Confirmation calls for, bounded above by land of widow Henry S. THIBODAUX and below by land of Leufroy BARRAS. The land mentioned belongs to the said VERDUN by virtue of the acquisition that he made thereof from Henry S. THIBODAUX, by act passed dated December 17, 1822, recorded in the office of the Judge, Book A, No. 85, pages 149 and 150. The sale made for $4,625.00. No. 724 On October 30, 1828 in an article of agreement, that Louis LABADIE and Louis LAMOUREE have this day bargained and sold to Ezettia HARRIS, of the city of Natchez, Mississippi, land to wit; a certain piece or parcel of land lying and being situate as follows; viz.; laying on the Bayou Terrebonne, in the Parish of Terrebonne in the State of Louisiana, about 25 miles from Thibodauxville, in the Parish of Lafourche Interior, 16 arpens width on both sides, bounded above by land of Joseph MORISAN and below by land of Joseph MILONE, for $2,5000.00. No. 725 3/464 On November 25, 1828 Brigite BELANGER, of this parish, declared that for the consideration hereinafter specified, she has sold, abandoned transferred, made over and delivered to and unto Mr. Richard G. ELLIS, of the State of Mississippi, a certain tract situate in this parish, on both sides of Bayou Terrebonne, containing 7 1/2 arpens, more or less, with 10 arpens depth on right bank and 30 arpens of depth on the left bank, bounded above by land owned by ELLIS, the present buyer and below by land of Leandre B. No. 726 3/465 On November 20, 1828 Reason P. BOWIE declares that for and in consideration of the sum of $7,000.00, in hand, paid by James BOWIE, of this Parish, he has sold, abandoned, made over and delivered to the same James BOWIE a certain trace of land situate in the Parish of Lafourche Interior, on right side of Bayou Lafourche, containing 12 arpens front, with 40 arpens in depth. No. 727 3/466 On November 25, 1828 James BOWIE declared that for the consideration herein specified, he has sold, abandoned, transferred, made over and delivered to and unto Mr. William B. BARROW, of West Feliciana to wit; a certain tract of land situate in this parish on East side of Bayou Grand Caillou, containing 40 arpens front, with such depth as will complete 1600 superficial arpens, bounded above by Vacant Lands, to the East by Vacant Lands, to the North by land of William KING, and West fronting on Bayou Grand Caillou, same land BOWIE acquired of Louis COSSIER, to whom it was confirmed by an act of Congress paped February 1823. No. 728 3/467 On November 25, 1828 James BOWIE declared that for the consideration herein specified, he has sold, abandoned, transferred, made over and delivered to and unto James CAGE, of Wilkinson County Mississippi to wit; a certain tract of land situate in this Parish and on the East side of Bayou Grand Caillou, containing 46 1/2 arpens front and 40 arpens in depth, forming the quanity of 1,860 superficial arpens, bounded above by land of George LAKE and below by land of William KING, this land being same that James BOWIE bought of R. P. BOWIE by deed of today’s date, who acquired of John TALREDO, who had same confirmed to him by an act of Congress paped in 1820, for $9,300.00. Witnessed by William B. BARROW and Robert A. BARROW.

No. 729 3/468 On November 25, 1828 James BOWIE declared that for the consideration herein specified, he has sold, abandoned, transferred, made over and delivered to and unto Mr. Robert R. BARROW of West Feliciana in this State, a certain tract of land situate in this Parish, on both sides of Bayou Grand Caillou, having 50 arpens front on West side and 25 arpens on East side, with such depth as to include the quanity of 1700 superficial arpens, bounded above on East side by land of Henry CHOUTARD, on West by land of WITHERSPOON and below by land of G. No. 730 3/469 On November 25, 1828 Stephen BOWIE declared that for and in consideration of the sum of $20,000.00, in hand, paid by James BOWIE, also of this parish, he has sold, abandoned, made over and delivered to wit; First, one tract of land situate on Bayou Boeuf, containing 5,400 arpens, having a front of 80 arpens on the East side, and 55 on the West side, bounded above by land of Doctor SMITH, on East and West by vacant land, below on West side by William HARGROVE and on the East side by lands purchased by Stephen BOWIE of Joseph FELICE, confirmed to Joseph GABON, by him sold to Stephen BOWIE. Second, one tract of land 80 arpens front on East side of Bayou Boeuf and 75 arpens on the West side, with such depth , as to form 6,200 superficial arpens, bounded South, East and West by vacant lands, above on West side by Thomas HURST and East side above by The tract purchased of Joseph GABON, confirmed to Joseph FELICE and sold by him to Stephen BOWIE. No. 731 3/470 On November 25, 1828 Reason P. BOWIE declared that for and in consideration of the sum of $7,000.00 in hand, paid by James BOWIE, he has sold, abandoned, made over and delivered to James BOWIE land to wit; a certain tract of land situate in this parish, on the East bank of Bayou Grand Caillou, containing 46 1/2 arpens front, with 40 arpens in depth, bounded above by land of George LAKE and below by land of William KING, being same that Reason P. BOWIE acquired of John TALREDO, to whom it was confirmed by an act of Congress paped in the year 1820. Witnessed by Robert R. BARROW and William B. BARROW.

No. 732 3/471 On November 26, 1828 James BOWIE declared that for and in consideration of $800.00, in hand, paid by Thomas HURSE, of Limestone County Alabama, the receipt there of, is acknowledged , he has sold, abandoned, made over and delivered a certain tract of land situate in this parish, measuring 5 arpens front on right bank of Bayou Buffalo, with a depth of the location, bounded above by land sold this day to Thomas LOVE, bounded below by land of vendor. This being a part of a larger tract confirmed in the name of Joseph GABON, who sold to Stephen BOWIE, who sold it to the present vendor, James BOWIE. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE and Thomas LOVE.

No. 733 3/476 On November 26, 1828 James BOWIE declared that for and in consideration hereinafter specified, he has sold, abandoned, transferred, made over and delivered to and unto Thomas LOVE, of Limestone County Alabama, who purchased for himself, a certain tract of land on both sides of Bayou Buffalo, having such front, on said Bayou, as to complete and include 1,000 arpens, superficial for $4,000.00. No. 734 3/475 On November 20, 1828 J. B. HURST and Thomas HURST, who declared that the deed of sale made under private signature between Thomas HURST and R. P. BOWIE, acting in the name of J. B. HURST, on June 28, 1828 is null and void, to all intents and purposes. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE and Thomas LOVE.

No. 735 3/474 On November 26, 1828 Thomas LOVE and Benjamin BATTS, both of Alabama, declared for and in the consideration of $1350.00, in hand, made over, dealed and by these presents, they do sell, abandon, transfer, make over and deliver to and unto the said James BOWIE the following Negroes, to wit; Arthur, a negro man aged about 60 years, Levy, another boy about 18 years, and Rany, a negro girl, of about 17 years, which vendor warrant and defend against all claims and sound of all diseases, provided by law and also slaves for life. No. 735 3/473 On November 3, 1828 Nathaniel NORWOOD, of Madison City, Alabama, bargained and sold unto Benjamin BATTS, for the sum of $825.00, to me in hand, two negro slaves; viz. Levy and Rany, the right and title of which I warrant and forever defend, clear and free, of any encumbrance whatever.

No. 737 3/473 On November 26, 1828 On November 26, 1828 William RODDY and John CLARK and Thomas LOVE agreed in the following manner, to wit; the said William RODDY and John CLARK by these presents to rent to Mr. Thomas LOVE, the plantation on which they now live, and being the same that they bought of the late Henry S. THIBODAUX, for the term of three years, beginning the First of January next, (1829) for $1,829.00. Witnessed by Joseph DELAPORTE and Thomas HURST.

No. 739 On December 9, 1828 Mrs. Heloise TOUPS, widow George TOUPS and als viz.: Louis TOUPS and Eliza TOUPS, assisted by and authorized by her husband Ursin PREVOST, alias COLLET and Joseph TOUPS, minor of 17 years assisted to these presents by his mother, his curatix ad bona and also by Joseph DARCE, his curatix ad lites, sold, abandoned and transferred, also by these presents doth sell, abandon, transfer, make over and deliver to and unto Mr. Richard G. ELLIS, of this Parish, all and singular their rights, titles and claims to a certain tract of land situate in this Parish, on both sides of Bayou Grand Caillou and containing 10 arpens front, with a depth of 20 arpens, on each side, bounded above by land confirmed in the name of Edmond FANGUY, now owned by G. No. 740 3/479 On April 27, 1826 before Francois St. MARTIN, notary public, in and for the Parish of Ascension, appeared Gerald CHRETIEN, of the Parish of St. Martin, who acknowledged and declared that he hath sold, transferred and delivered, and by these presents, doth transfer, set over and deliver unto A. B. STERRETT, of the Parish of Ascention to wit; a certain tract or parcel of land situate on the right bank of Bayou Grand Caillou, on descending, joining or bounded on the lower side by land of Edmond FANGUY and above by land of Gerard CHRETIEN, containing 12 arpens front on said bayou, with 40 arpens depth, in consideration of the sum of $500.00, which he acknowledged to have received, on the surveying of land situated on both banks of said bayou and containing 11,190 acres & 56/100 of an acre. No. 741 On December 2, 1828 before John Nicholson DUNCAN, notary public of and in the city of New Orleans, appeared Jumonville DeVILLIERS, who declared that in considering the above, transferred and made over a certain piece of land situated on Bayou Grand Caillou, in Parish of Terrebonne, in favor of one named Ferdinand Victor POTHIER, by an act not valid, in its form and in consideration of certain conditions, not fulfilled by the said POTHIER, which land was granted to him by Spanish Government and contains the following limits, viz.: begin by the lower limit, at the place known under the name of the old Darbonne settlement and measuring, in ascending Bayou Grand Caillou 36 arpens front on each bank, of said Bayou Grand Caillou, with depth, between parallel lines of 8 arpens on each bank, containing 5,760 superficial arpens, more or less, in consideration that POTHIER has then, by a act passed before Mr. LAFITEE, dated April 13, 1818, duly transported the same land to Jean GRAVIER; and in a further conveyance, that the said land was then sold by virtue of two orders of execution or fieri facias, rendered for the Honorable one, the District Court, for the First Judicial District, in court for lawsuits, in which P. A. CUVILLIER and J. B. CASENAVE were plaintiffs, and J. B. GRAVIER was defendant, and that sale which took place, by said orders of execution, the said was adjudicated to one named James BOWIE, who sold it to various individuals and in consideration that Pleasant Branche COCKE is the present owner, of the larger part of land, having bought it from James BOWIE and one named Lemuel TANNER. Now in order to end and to foresee all controversies and difficulties relative to the said land, and assure said COCKE the peaceful possession, of the part that belongs to him, at the present, the said Jumonville DeVILLERS, for and in consideration of the sum $1,500.00, paid to himself by COCKE, renounces for himself, his heirs and assigns, all right, titles and claims whatsoever, on the land of 36 arpens front, more or less, and subrogates the same COCKE in all his rights and title. No. 744 Receipt. On December 18, 1828 received of William BISLAND the sum of $1,000.00, it being part of a payment due me in March next on a tract of land on Bayou Terrebonne. Signed by P. CAZEAUX and Judge Leufroy BARRAS.

No. 745 On December 20, 1828 Aubin B. THIBODAUX, legal heir of the deceased Henry S. THIBODAUX, hereby give by these presents, to Mrs. (widow) Henry S. THIBODAUX full power to sell on their terms and conditions, that she shall judge suitable and to such persons that she shall desire, the portion that I have on the following property to wit; a piece of land situate in Thibodauxville, containing half a block, near Mr. LANGE and a piece of land confirmed in the name of Joseph DIANNE, containing 320 superficial arpens, more or less, this land being a portion inventoried. No. 746 3/481 On December 22, 1828 James BOWIE exchanged land with Edmond HOGAN.

No. 751 On December 10, 1809 Peter WILLIAMS sold and abandoned his land on Bayou Darbonne to Henry S. THIBODAUX, for $50.00, land about eight or nine miles from Bayou Lafourche, and warrant same against all claims (Filed December 29, 1928).

No. 752 On December 15, 1809 John MASON, for the sum of $50.00, to me in hand paid, I have sold and abandoned to Henry S. THIBODAUX my land on Bayou Darbonne, situated about eight miles from Bayou Lafourche and I warrant the said land only from me and my heirs. In testimony where of, I have hereunto made my mark, in the presence of Joseph CRAWFORD and Hugh G. JOHNSTON on this 15th of December 1809.

No. 753 3/483 On January 2, 1829 Leandre B. THIBODAUX, as testamentary executor of the deceased Henry S. THIBODAUX, his father, he had sold under private act land before the death of his father, to Mr. Samuel H. HARPER, of the City of New Orleans, a piece of land in this Parish and in consideration that land had been designated in an incorrect manner, now the said executor, in the name of the aforesaid succession, for the consideration of $300.00, paid, hereby sells, cedes, transfers and delivers to Samuel H. HARPER to wit; 5 arpens front on each side of Bayou Terrebonne, with depth as the certificate of confirmation calls for, bounded above by land of William S. WATKINS and below by land of Hypolite HEBERT, being part of the concession of Nicholas LIRETTE, unto the said HARPER, to enjoy and dispose of as a thing belonging to himself, in full ownership, from this day forward and forever.
