The Old Cole Cemetery is located at the end of Old Cole Cemetery Road. From De Ridder, travel east on LA 112 about 10 miles, then turn north on LA 399, go about 1/4 of a mile and turn right at the sign which says Old Cole/Smyrna Cemetery. The cemetery is at the end of this pavement.
There are many "lost" graves here. When I first visited this area in 1953, there were many of the old-timey picket-fenced graves as well as graves with little houses. A lot of the graves were marked with bridal wreath bushes. As time went by, the fences, houses, and bushes were disposed of, and the graves are now unmarked. It is a neat, well-kept cemetery surrounded by woods; a pleasant place to visit, but so many graves are unmarked that it makes the genealogist's work frustrating.
