Starks

On one of our cemetery information gathering jaunts, we got onto some unfamiliar roads that took us through Carter Settlement near Starks. As we were turning around at a bad section of road, we spotted a small cemetery. The road side area was deep with mud, so we pulled into what we thought was the parking area for this cemetery---wrong! We parked on Dolly Peveto's wildflower area! She let us know real soon. But as a result, we met a delightful lady who was soon inviting us back in better driving times, and then she took us to see the "Old Dr. Ross Carter Cemetery" and told us much about the history of Carter Settlement. But this is taking us away from Peveto Cemetery.
Peveto Cemetery is a private cemetery which she (Dolly) has shared with a neighbor who didn't mind sharing Dolly's Boston bull terrier's final resting place. Dolly didn't "want a parking lot built over her younguns", so this is why she started her own cemetery. She has a base for her own tombstone already in place for when the time comes when it will be needed. Her property has been dedicated to wild critters and plants.
If you decide to visit this cemetery, please stay on the driveway, so that you don't cut ruts in her wildflower area and mash them down. Better yet---write to her, and she will probably invite you to see what she is doing.
