Provencal, Natchitoches Parish, LA
Friendship Cemetery, Provencal, Natchitoches Parish, LA Location: LA Hwy 117 south of Provencal about three miles, turn east on Parish Road 725, approximately one mile to Friendship Cemetery marker, turn right and about 1-4 mile to cemetery. 44 marked burials.
There are eight 8 unmarked wooden and metal crosses marking obvious burials. Also there is an infant or child's grave marked with a slab and and headstone, but all identification has been removed except a metal marker with April 11 on it. There was apparently a picture or some scripted paper in a raised frame, but water has made this illegible.
Interesting markers are those of Martha Lee Taylor. A new and more legible marker has been placed over the upper area of the grave, adjacent to the older marker. A fitting memorial to both the person buried there and to the person who placed the possibly handcrafted original marker.
A white wire fence 8-12 inches high surrounds what appears to be a double infant-child plot. According to information published in The Natchitoches Genealogist October 1993, furnished by Delores Sparks Kay of Provencal, LA, this may be the burial of COBB twins. Ms. Kay also lists an ORVILLE SMITH as one of the unmarked burials. Submitted by N. Liles - 2-98.
