The Murphy Cemetery is located on the outskirts of Natchitoches, LA amid the river farmlands. From Natchitoches, traveling south on Hwy 1, cross the Cane River Lake bridge and immediately turn left traffic light onto Woodyard Drive, which, once out of the city limits, becomes Fish Hatchery Road-Parish Road 514. Follow this road along the river for five and one-half miles and the cemetery is on the right.
There are thirty-five marked, inscribed burials, one large concrete slab with no inscription, and three broken and illegible markers. While the cemetery is surrounded on three sides by flat, cultivated fields which are usually planted in cotton or soy beans, a large, old tree provides both shade and character to the fenced cemetery. A lovely view of the winding river can be seen on the north side. Only a few of the tombstones are new; most are old and of interesting variety.

MCCLELAND, Mahala broken, no dates Wife of _________, A broken stone nearby reads: John McCleland - Born Oct. 19, 1836 - Died Aug. 27, 1904; this appears to be the lower part of Mahala McCleland's marker, as the name John McCleland is in small letters, not of the size usually associated with name markers; also the placement of the letters indicates is part of a larger stone.
