Founder and retired original owner of West Side Journal of Port Allen, she died Friday, Nov. 9, 2007, at her home in Baton Rouge. She was 88 and a native of Port Allen. Visiting at First Baptist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 13, from 10 a.m. until religious service at noon. Interment in Greenoaks Memorial Park. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Loretta Young Decuir and Judge Oswald A. Decuir, of New Iberia; son, Douglas R. Young, of Port Allen; four grandchildren, Jon Scott Decuir and wife Loren "Missey" Decuir, of New Iberia, Becky Young, of Georgia, Michelle Y. Smith and husband Paul Raymond Smith, of New Roads, and Dana Y. Kahn and husband Dr. Jeffrey Kahn, of Baton Rouge; nine great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild. Preceded in death by her husband, L.D. Young Jr.; son, L.D. "Dee" Young III; daughter-in-law, Thelma M. Young; parents, S. Homer and Nealy L. Ragan; and brothers, Robert "Bob" Ragan and Charles "C.H." Ragan. Pallbearers will be Oswald Decuir, J. Scott Decuir Sr., Jon S. Decuir Jr., Paul Raymond Smith, Jeffrey Kahn, Gary Kennedy, Robert Hebert Sr. and Errol Simpson. Honorary pallbearers are Soren Young and Mike Russell. She was a 50-year member of Order of the Eastern Star, a member of West Side Women's Club, Tuesday Night Bridge Club, West Side Garden Club and a founding charter member of First Baptist Church. Arrangements by Wilbert Funeral Home, Port Allen.
