Former local resident Jack H. Hare, age 77, died on November 28, 1999 at Kingwood Hospital in Houston, Tx. Memorial services were held December 1, 1999 at Rosewood Funeral Home and were attended by family and friends from all over the country. Mr. Hare was born September 14, 1922 in Birmingham, Alabama and lived in Port Allen for many years. He is survived by his wife of ten years, Anna Patterson Hare, daughters Susan H. Langlois of Port Allen, Peggy H. Gascon of Scottsdale, Arizona, and son Michael Hare of Port Allen, grandchildren Christopher, Emily and Rebecca Langlois and Douglas, Scott and Matt Gascon and Michael Grouskay: great-grandchildren Carly and Shenae Gascon, Brenden Usie and Zachary Langlois: Step-children, Carol Helton, Robin Parrish and Marshall Patterson as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by one stepchild, Dewyte Patterson in 1996.
Owner and operator of Gaspard's Television Service for more than 20 years and an employee of the LSU Department of Biological and Agricultural Engineering, he passed away Monday, Dec. 27, 1999, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center-Mid City. He was 63, a resident of Addis and a native of Marksville. He served in the National Guard Unit of Marksville for 12 years. She was a housewife and a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witness. She was 77 and died Monday, January 3, 2000 at her home in Bismarck, AR. She was born October 16, 1922 in Caney, AR., she was the daughter of the late Luke and Alice Pearl Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marion James "M.J." Skinner, one brother, Floyd Martin of Bismarck, one sister, Nellie Etheridge of Mt. Pleasant, TX. Survivors include two sons, James E. and his wife, Patsy Skinner of Denham Springs and David L. and his wife, Pam Skinner of Bismarck; two brothers, Carroll "Jack" Martin and Robert Martin both of Bismarck; three sisters, Coy Loy of Bismarck, Beluah "Bea" Divine of Friendship and Adele Peterson of Benton and one grandson Daniel Skinner of Port Allen as well as two other grandsons, two granddaughters and a great granddaughter, also several nieces and newphews and friends. Survived by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Ione and Ronald Couvillon and Jeanne and Sonny Brignac, Port Allen, and Noel and Ron Read, Pride; five brothers and two sisters-in-law, the Rev. Henry C. Vavasseur, Alfred "Al" Vavasseur and Philip Vavasseur, all of Port Allen, Edgar and Brenda Vavasseur, Gonzales, and Glyn and Judy Vavasseur, Baton Rouge; 21 nieces and nephews and 14 great-nieces and great-nephews. Preceded in death by her parents, David Avery and Pauline "Polly" Marie Laurent Vavasseur; and a brother, the Rev. David A. Vavasseur Jr. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and for many years was bookkeeper for Holy Family church and school and Christ the King Student Center at LSU. She was a eucharistic minister and treasurer of Holy Family Sanctuary Guild, past grand regent of Court Our Lady of Victory No. 1351 of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and secretary of the Twilight Mixed Bowling League for many years. She founded the Santa Apolonia Mission Club when her brother, the Rev. David A. Vavasseur, went to Guatemala as a missionary. Beloved mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, she died Monday, March 13, 2000, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center at age 58. She was a native of Plaquemine and a resident of Baton Rouge. Visiting was at Roscoe Mortuary, Plaquemine, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Friday. Religious services were at St. Joseph Baptist Church, Plaquemine, at 7 p.m. Friday, with the Rev. Leonard Johnson officiating. Dismissal at 11 a.m. Saturday. Interment in St. Joseph Cemetery. Survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Milton Ray Banks Jr., Baton Rouge, and Mr. and Mrs. Ferman Nicholas, California; three daughters, Theresa Banks and Delores Reed, both of Baton Rouge, and Jennifer Watts, Plaquemine; 15 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Gloria Nicholas, Port Allen; a brother and sister-in-law, James and Rachael Nicholas, Baton Rouge; a son-in-law, Eugene Reed, Plaquemine; three special friends, Annette Gillis, Shirley Johnson and Katie Barthley, all of Plaquemine; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
A retired cook at Sacred Heart rectory and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 6:15 p.m. Saturday, March 11, 2000, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. She was 57 and a native of New Roads. Visiting was at Fairview Baptist Church from 9 a.m. Saturday until religious services at noon, conducted by the Rev. Q.T. Ellis. Interment in Winnfield Memorial Park. Survived by a son, Leslie Oneal Jones, Baton Rouge; a niece and three nephews whom she raised, Vernita Jones, Edward Jones, Steven Jones and Joseph Jones, all of Baton Rouge; four sisters, Wilma Jones and Rosetta Jones, both of Baton Rouge, Doris Jones, Pontiac, Mich., and Lillie Ell and husband Henry, New Roads; and two brothers, Richard Jones Jr., Port Allen, and Elbert Lee Williams Sr., Baton Rouge. Preceded in death by her parents, Richard and Vernita Jones; a sister, Brunetta Nelson; a niece, Joyce A. Jones; three aunts, Cora Toulouse, Susie Thomas and Betsy Bourgeois; and two uncles, Martin Jones Jr. and Charlie Jones. Pallbearers will be Henry Ell, Steven Jones, Senica Williams, Joseph Jones, Edward Jones, Steve D. Williams Sr., Israel Garnett and Jamie Johnson. Honorary pallbearers are Leslie Oneal Jones, Richard Jones Jr., Elbert L. Williams Sr., Timothy Jones, Nelson Marks, James Jones, Shawn Jones and Christopher Jones. She attended Batchelor Elementary and New Roads High schools. She loved to cook.
A retired East Baton Rouge Parish School Board employee and a resident of Baton Rouge, she died at 7 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at Sterling Place. She was 91 and a native of Pointe Coupee Parish. Visiting was at Christ Baptist Church, Port Allen, from 9 a.m. Saturday until religious services at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Dr. Phillip Joseph. Interment was in the church cemetery. Survived by two godsons, Charles Courtney Jr. and Clarence Hills; four nieces, Alma Young Woods, Beatrice Woods, Edna Mae Woods and Bessie Woods; an adopted grand-daughter, Beverly Courtney; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by her mother, Elsie Woods; father, Eddie Woods; brother, Jesse Woods; aunt, Francis Jones; and grandmother, LeAnn Shields. She was a member of Christ Baptist Church Senior Choir for more than 15 years, Willing Workers Club, Deaconess Board and Sewing Club of Zion City. Hall's Mortuary, Port Allen, in charge of arrangements.
A loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she passed away at 4:45 p.m. Thurs-day, March 16, 2000, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. She was 75 and a lifelong resident of Brusly. Visiting was at Hall's Mortuary, Port Allen, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Friday. Religious services at the mortuary from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. Friday, conducted by Brother Ralph Vallet. Dismissal at noon Saturday. Burial in Antioch Bap-tist Church Cemetery, Lukeville. Survived by two daughters, Sharon A. Robertson Robinson and Linda G. Robertson, both of Brusly; four sisters, Gloria D. Harrington and Bobbye H. Johnson, both of Brusly, Elnora Bar-ney, and Lillian Jones and husband Earl, all of New Orleans; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Henry and Patsy Harrington, Brusly, and Paul and Teralyn Harrington, Baton Rouge; eight grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceded in death by her parents, Hampton and Blanche Harrington; husband, Clarence E. Robertson; two daughters, Barbara Venable and Charlene Robertson; a brother, Hampton Harrington Jr.; and two sisters, Dorothy and Shirley Harrington.
A retired employee of Kansas City Southern Railroad Co., he died at 1:15 a.m. Wednesday, March 22, 2000, at Baton Rouge General Medical Center. He was 85 and a resident and native of Baton Rouge. Visiting was at Rabenhorst Funeral Home, 825 Government St., from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. to 9:10 a.m. Saturday. Religious services were at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, conducted by the Rev. Aaron John. Interment in Roselawn Memorial Park. Sur-vived by a daughter and son-in-law, DeAnn and Gerald Dias, Westwego; two sons and daughters-in-law, Tim and Carolyn Simoneaux, Gaborone, Botswana, Africa, and Ronald and Sylvia Simoneaux, Port Allen; a close friend, Barbara Conran, Baton Rouge; 10 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his wife, Flavia Agnes LaSage Simoneaux; two sons, Gerard Joseph Simoneaux Jr. and Donald James Simoneaux. Pall-bearers will be grandsons.
