A deputy with the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office, he died at 3:30 p.m. Friday, March 24, 2000, at Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center from a gun-shot wound received in the line of duty. He was 61, a resident of Clinton and born in Baskin in Franklin Parish. She was a member of Louisiana Home and Foreign Mission Baptist State Convention, have served as a member of Preachers' Wives and Widows and Women Mission Union. She was a member of National Baptist Convention of America Inc., having served as a member of Women Mission Union, and was a worthy matron of Progressive Chapter 108 of Order of the Eastern Star. Dr. Fred J. Rinehart, Gladstone, MO, passed away April 16th at his home, after a lengthy illness with cancer. He will be cremated. The family suggests contributions be made to the Shriners Burn Unit, % Aarat Shrine, 5100 Aarat Drive, Kansas City, MO 64129. Dr. Rinehart was born February 6, 1910 in Unipolis, Ohio. He graduated from Fremont High School in Fremont, Ohio and received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in education from LSU. During WWII, he was a field director for the American Red Cross stationed at Selman Field, Monroe, La. He was a popular English and History teacher at Port Allen High School for ten years before attending medical school. In 1962, he graduated from the Kirksville College of Osteopathy. He established a practice north of the river and worked until his retirement in 1997. Fred is survived by his wife of 54 years, Kitty Rinehart; their children, Jane and Cathy, son-in-law, Richard W. Bulman; and grandson Alexander Jerome Jobe. "Doc", "High", "High-Speed", Jerome will be sorely missed for his sound advice, droll wit, irreverent attitude, and his ability to think. After graduating, he was employed by Eckerd Drugs in Opelousas from 1963 to 1967 as pharmacist and store manager. From 1968 to 1971, he was pharmacist supervisor in Louisiana, Texas and Mississippi. While in Church Point, he became active in civic organizations. He was a member of Church Point Jaycees and served on the Industrial Inducement Committee, which was responsible for Garan Inc. locating in Church Point. He served as president of the Pee-Wee football league and was elected and served as city councilman for four years. He was named chairman of the board during the organization of the Louisiana Wholesale Drug Co. and was charter president for four years. He was a member of Church Point Area Chamber of Commerce, a 25-year member of Knights of Columbus and a board member of Church Point Bank & Trust. He accepted Christ as his personal savior and was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the Rev. Gregory V. White. He served faithfully until his failing health prevented him from attending church services. He was instrumental in directing the security ministry at Beech Grove Baptist Church. He was a retired sergeant with East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's Office with 16 years of service. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Annie B. Ramsey, Baton Rouge; four sons and daughters-in-law, Michael and Debra, Rick and Wanda, Daryl and Unrecka and Devin and Donna Ramsey, all of Baton Rouge; two daughters and sons-in-law, Dedra and Andrew Simmonds, Ocean Springs, Miss., Kara and Dustin Savage, Callas, Idaho; a goddaughter, Vanessa Tate, Baton Rouge; 19 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; four sisters, Ophelia Coleman and Georgia Brown, both of Clinton, Bertha Gipson, Erwinville, and Gladys Soileau, Elton; mother and father-in-law, Leola and Stanley Higginbotham, Baton Rouge; three brothers and sisters-in-law, James and Sarah Stampley, Baker, John Higginbotham and Willie Tate, Baton Rouge, Rosalie Burgess, Baton Rouge, Ruby Lee Stampley, New Orleans; and numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A former Iberville Parish sheriff's deputy and White Castle police officer, he died at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2000, at River West Medical Center in Plaquemine. He was 60 and a native and resident of Plaquemine. He served in the U.S. Air Force during peace time.
