Mineral Springs Cemetery
Submitted by Annette Carpenter Womack of
Winnfield, LA
Copied 1978
Location: Off Hwy 505, near the Cypress
Creek Church North of Winnfield, Winn Parish, LA
The listings are
copied from the tombstones just as I found them with my notes in
brackets. There is no church at this location because there was a
hard-shell Baptist Church located about a mile away. Mr. Billy Temple
who showed me where the cemetery was located, said he remembered coming
to the cemetery as a small boy and there were more graves then, than on
the day I copied it. {which was 20 years ago now!}

More information from
the 1880 Winn Parish Census: age 52, born AL. Wife is Martha A.
[Bolton], Box, age 40 from SC. Wife's father is from TN and her mother
is from SC. Wisemon's parents are from SC. He enlisted May 10, 1862, a
private in Gray's army. One of his children, Palistine Box, wife of
James Thomas Hodge is buried at Cypress Creek Cemetery. When his wife,
Martha died, she was buried at Cypress Creek near this daughter
Palistine because the creek was up and they could not get her to this
cemetery. (Or so the story was told to me.)

[If you stand in a certain area, you can see shadows of approximately 5
